Reader Poll: New Consumable “Skill” subsystem!
Added 2025-06-02 23:27:31 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
I’m working on the next batch of chapters for We Lease the Kraken, and I’ve got a new mechanic idea I’d love your feedback on. As always, your input really helps shape the direction of the story!
The Idea:
In later chapters, Jeremiah will learn that instead of permanently learning a new beast skill, Attunements instead ofter the chance to purchase "consumable" items that allow the holder to use a specific skill. These are consumable items—think magical tags, chips, or tokens—that give a temporary ability or bonus and can be traded or sold to customers.
They’re:
One-use only (not permanent skills)
Weaker than regular Contract/Pact abilities
Tradable or sellable in the Shop.
Each comes in a physical form—maybe a tag, token, chip, or card.
This would give Jeremiah more ways to interact with the world, support side-characters, and add a new layer to shopkeeping story!
Customers will have the chance to buy a "Beast Amulet" alongside the item. Its expensive, but allows them to store the actual skill items. Like a storage ring, but just for these items.
Customers who adopt a Beast from the store will receive a huge discount on both of these items.
That said, I need your input on what these ideas should even BE in the first place.
Here's the options I'm thinking of currently.
