First time I ever saw this movie too, during Cass's reaction. I expected a grand love story, that I heard about this about so many times before, but it was subtle, it was understanding, and it was lovely, to have the nerve.... (without giving out any spoilers)

I have watched it several (at least 5) times, and this increased my enjoyment and appreciation of it over time. Rewatching was not entirely my choice though. It was often thrown at me as a regular on a classic movies TV channel. I guess, today rewatching of a movie has become entirely the individual's choice.

One of my favorite things about this channel is how open Cass is to different kinds of movies. The first time I saw it I thought it was simply okay. I've seen it several times and it's one of those movies that can grow on you. The movie was instantly iconic when it came out, and it felt relevant to audiences back then since the U.S. had just entered WWII. The cast was filled with many European-born actors who had fled Nazi-occupied Europe. The scene where the actors starting singing "La Marseillaise" to drown out the Nazis singing was emotional for a lot of the cast/crew.
