When women give birth and the process is over they release a lot of endorphines which strengthens their initial bond to the child. Also I don't think parents necessarily see how ugly newborns are because they have waited to see them for many months. And them probably being afraid of the day at the same time. just adds to the relieve. Also I love Holt getting emotional in this episode.
