The running gag of Marin’s cooking breaks from the trope of being bad. The point is that it’s very meat centric as opposed to the typical japanese diet and her portions are huge. She literally eats just meat and rice on her own. So, you are an episode director and you are handed an episode to work on that is mostly plot important dialogue. How do you keep the audience focused to absorb the plot points and avoid the “boardroom episode”? If you work at CloverWorks, you teach a master class in the art that I haven’t seen since Kaguya-sama. Throw in a puppet show cut, a game show cut, time lapse, super deform, keep the camera in motion, pan, zoom, dolly, tilt, combo them all. When you think you have seen it all, let’s do a 1-1 manga to anime comparison! When the characters do move, go all in. That cut of Marin walking into the sewing room with the suit on really drove home the point Gojo was about to make. Story-wise I feel back on track after the switcheroo of the first three episodes. We start to get hints that, unlike most hot female leads, Marin is not universally adored and has a natural relationship with her class. It seems there are some she clashes a bit with. Marin’s struggle to demonstrate her feelings continues. Flirting and teasing hasn’t worked because Gojo’s respect for her causes him to suppress the response she wants. So, she turns to acts of service. If you ever doubt how much the CloverWorks team love this IP, take a close look at the key rack cut coming out of the OP. The 2 keys with the pink and blue fobs. The bow (the round part of the key) on the left key is embossed with YOU. The key on the right the ridge pattern on the bow is the letter I over a circle. Look further down the keys and the ridges of the teeth form Marin and Gojo’s profiles. That is not from a manga panel, it’s a storyboard original.
