Yep the Barriers the Saints create will shatter at one Point even when they are not under pressure like they are now when the Demon Realm approaches, which is why they have to go out every now and then to either make a new Barrier when a old one shattered or at least strengthen one that is on the verge of shattering. For those on the stronger Side like Philia, they last quite a long Time though even they shatter faster when under Pressure like now with increased Monster activity while weaker Saints have to do this more often. Unless they would do something like Philia did and create a puryfying Barrier that is entirely sustained by Natural Mana instead though that has its own little Drawbacks as Philia already explained (need of Ancient Knowledge, a innate Talent to feel and control the Natural Mana etc and you cant move far away from the Center of those Barriers) Also, how they could get away with taking Philia was explained a bit more in the LN and Manga. Hildegard initially rejected her Brother Georg´s demand when it was obvious she was pregnant that he, as the Head of House Adenauer, will handle her Child if she gives birth to a Daughter. But when Philia was born, and her Brother and even their Father (as she said their Mother passed away relativly early so no one could stop those two ) got Wind of it, they took away her Child by force not long after she was born, and since Hildegard had just given Birth, she was weak and her Husband was ill and also couldnt help. Plus she lost her standing in the Adenauer house, making her effectivly a powerless Noble who couldnt say no to the head of a House even though she was the Saint. All those malicious lies and rumours her Brother planted into Peoples heads for many Years plus the one that she supposedly had a stillborn Baby also didnt help her.
