Treats in the mail this year
Added 2022-12-09 15:00:12 +0000 UTCHi Everyone! The theme of this post is “Treats I received in the mail” in 2022 — A shout-out and thank you to a few creators whom I admire and appreciate, whose work I’ve been enjoying.
1. Animation colleague Malcolm Thomas had opened commissions earlier this year, and I requested one for my daughter: A fan art pic of one of her favorite shows, Centaurworld. Not only did he send this beauty (which she & I adored)…

…he added this extemely awesome bunnified version (referencing my 30-Second Bunnies Theatre work).

Classic! So fun — Love these so much! Thanks again, Malcolm!
2. Since taking a couple classes and interacting with the Sequential Arts Workshop community, I’ve met so many talented and inspiring comics creators. One of them is Yawatta Hosby, who successfully crowd-funded and published the first chapters of her gorgeously-colored and fun comic series: Unscripted. I was mighty pleased to receive the results and look forward to more (which is in progress, whoo)!

In addition to making comics, Yawatta also teaches diary comics workshops. With her calm confidence and gentle, soothing approach, these workshops would make great holiday gifts...As would her comics!
3. SAW instructor Jess Ruliffson’s new book Invisible Wounds arrived in the mail most recently, and I just finished it. The art is amazing, and fascinating to read in comics form and interpretation, the documented experiences of these veterans. Compelling, bleak and beautifully, sensitively crafted. Thank you Jess!

4. Finally, a double wowie and thank-you to Brandon Hankins, who also successfully crowdfunded and published his ongoing webcomic series Autumn Wing. His inkwork is glorious, and the story engaging and exciting. I love having a paperback compilation of this chunk of story and am trying to savor it slowly.

Part 2: Earlier in the year, Brandon had opened commissions, and I requested a “Chef’s Choice” surprise piece. What he sent me was so extraordinary, I feel joy every time I look at it:

It’s his rendition of Avery Bear! It’s like he knows and sees her inner essence. I was so, so moved when I received it. Check out Autumn Wing, and stay alert for next time he opens up commissions!!
My heartfelt thanks again to these creators for some great treats in the mail!
