Chapter 46 – The Unscrupulous Loot

Lynn Naya had used her spiritual sense to probe the storage bag and knew there were many things inside, but she didn’t expect there to be this many.

She instinctively took a step back from the pile of items, which was taller than she was. She covered her mouth and nose as a few spirit stones rolled to her feet.

The sheer quantity of the loot was unusual, and Lynn Naya felt more and more that she had encountered an evil cultivator.

A normal person wouldn’t immediately resort to killing someone to silence them. Furthermore, that ordinary face—to be honest, she liked to disguise herself as such a person. They were completely unremarkable and didn’t leave an impression on anyone.

Thinking that these items were very likely from an evil cultivator, Lynn Naya wasn’t in a hurry to touch them.

Who knew if there were any other tricks.

Back on the ground floor, Lynn Naya grabbed one of the rabbits she was raising in the yard and took it down to the basement. Xue Yong had caught these rabbits from the farm. One of the female rabbits was pregnant, so he hadn’t killed it. Now, it had become a whole nest of rabbits.

The few children in the family loved them, and just yesterday, a little rabbit’s head got stuck in a crack in the wall, and the four of them were in tears as they each tried to save one of its legs.

Carrying the rabbit down to the basement, Lynn Naya threw it into the treasure pile. The rabbit quickly scurried around and didn’t die. When Lynn Naya picked it up, it was still holding an herb in its mouth and trying to bite it with its big teeth.

“You’re a hungry rabbit, aren’t you…” Lynn Naya had thought it would either live or die, but she hadn’t expected it to be so greedy.

She took the herb from its mouth and observed the rabbit for a while. Seeing that it was lively and had no problems at all, she put it aside and began to inspect her spoils, covering her mouth, nose, and hands with spiritual energy.

There were many spirit stones in the treasure pile. She estimated there were one or two thousand of them. The spirit stones alone more than made up for the Five Thunder Talismans she had just lost. The rest was pure profit.

There were also over thirty bottles of pills. Some had names, and some didn’t. As per her rule, Lynn Naya didn’t understand them and didn’t dare to touch them. She put them with the pills she had gotten before.

There were also over a dozen weapons, including swords, sabers, and axes. Most of them were broken, with only a few being completely intact.

In the market now, some weapons that were better than refined iron cost more than ten spirit stones. Lynn Naya estimated that if she were to sell these weapons, even the broken ones would be worth at least ten spirit stones. As for the intact ones, they would probably start at fifty spirit stones. Unfortunately, she couldn’t sell them in the open. If only there was a black market…

Huh? A black market. Lynn Naya remembered. There seemed to be a black market in the mortal district. After all, there were always people with shady goods who wanted to get rid of them. She just had never paid attention to it. She could go and ask around later.

Continuing to look at the treasure pile, herbs also made up the majority of the items. There were hundreds of them, including ginseng, spirit ganoderma, and firebeard grass.

She even saw a few stalks of cold moon grass, but their quality wasn’t as good as the ones she had grown. They lacked cold energy, and there wasn’t even a hint of frost on their leaves. No wonder they were just lying on the ground, without even a box to store them in.

After putting away these low-level herbs, Lynn Naya looked at the jade boxes in the pile.

There were a total of nine jade boxes. Generally, anything that was specifically packaged wouldn’t be bad. She wondered what was inside them.

Lynn Naya wasn’t in a hurry to open the boxes. She decided to save them for last and sort out the other visible items first.

After putting the jade boxes aside, Lynn Naya found a set of flags.

There were eighteen flags in total, with a jade slip bundled with them. Lynn Naya looked at the contents of the jade slip and was overjoyed.

The flags were a set of defensive array flags. Once the array was set, it would automatically be invisible, and cultivators below the Qi Condensation Great Perfection wouldn’t be able to easily enter. The flags also had a built-in killing array that would kill anyone who tried to force their way in.

This is a good item. If she put this in her house, she wouldn’t have to worry about being ambushed.

Besides the array flags, Lynn Naya also found some heart-protecting mirrors, chain mail, hairpins, and magical robes, but they were all in tatters and could only be treated as garbage.

As for the jade slips and cultivation methods scattered on the ground, she took a look. They were all various crooked and evil cultivation methods. The only one that could be considered a righteous cultivation method was the Dao Palace’s Evergreen Technique.

At this point, Lynn Naya was basically certain that she had killed an evil cultivator.

Only an evil cultivator’s storage bag would be so rich. She wondered how many people that guy had killed to accumulate all of this.

Looking at the pile, which was now mostly gone, Lynn Naya found a few Spring Recovery Talismans and Exorcism Talismans in the remaining debris. She didn’t know if it was because there were so few talisman masters outside or because these single-use items were used up quickly, but the number was a little low compared to the other things.

Finally, Lynn Naya found three jade tokens. One was an identity jade token for a Dao Palace mortal cultivator, one was an identity token for a Dao Palace Shenxiu Peak disciple, and the last one didn’t belong to the Dao Palace. It had the words “Eastfall” on it.

The only thing Lynn Naya could associate with “Eastfall” was Eastfall City. Plus, the Dao Palace disciples had been clearing out evil cultivators near Eastfall City for the past year. So, was this evil cultivator a spy sent by Eastfall City to gather information?

Whether he was or not, she had to remind Yun Xian about this.

After cleaning up the debris on the ground, Lynn Naya began to open the jade boxes.

The first jade box contained a fire-red, translucent fire ginseng. It wasn’t very big, only about the size of a human palm. There was a blurry human face on the ginseng, which was a little scary. The second jade box also contained a fire ginseng of a similar size. The third was also one, and surprisingly, the fourth was, too.

Just as Lynn Naya was about to give up on the jade boxes, a puff of black smoke suddenly shot out when she opened the fifth one. Fortunately, she had covered her mouth and nose with spiritual energy and didn’t inhale it. Even so, she felt her spiritual energy being rapidly consumed.

This black smoke is so powerful that it can even corrode spiritual energy?

Lynn Naya didn’t even bother to pick up the remaining jade boxes. She retreated from the basement, took two spirit stones from her storage bag, and absorbed the spiritual energy from them. After she felt that the spiritual energy in her body was no longer being consumed, she meditated and checked herself for any other abnormalities.

It was a good thing she hadn’t inhaled the black smoke. Her body was fine.

I knew an evil cultivator wouldn’t be without some tricks. So this is what he was waiting for. She had been careless, blinded by the greed of opening the treasure boxes. She had to be more cautious next time.

She used her spiritual sense to probe the basement. The rabbit was no longer there. There was only a pool of blood on the ground.

How sinister.

After resting for a while, Lynn Naya grabbed two more rabbits and took them down. The first rabbit died after about ten breaths. The second one lasted a little longer.

After she had tested all but one of the rabbits in the nest, the one in the basement finally stayed alive. Even so, Lynn Nayadidn’t stay on the ground for long. She put the remaining four jade boxes into the evil cultivator’s storage bag and opened the ventilation system she had installed when she built the basement. Then, she went into the next basement to continue opening the boxes.

This time, she was much more cautious. She covered her whole body with spiritual energy and used a two-meter-long stick to open the items instead of getting close.

The evil cultivator probably knew this trick would only work once. The next box was fine, but the item inside was disappointing. The next three boxes were all fire ginsengs. Only the last one was a withered leaf.

Lynn Naya didn’t recognize the withered leaf, but the seven fire ginsengs made her feel a little depressed. These things looked very expensive and had a very concentrated spiritual energy, but the wholesale-like quantity made her a little suspicious.

What kind of rare treasure can be born in a litter of seven…

She thought for a moment but couldn’t figure it out. Lynn Naya decided not to waste any more time. Anyway, she wasn’t going to eat this stuff until she knew what it was. She would figure it out later.

In the meantime, she wasn’t going to go to the herb forest for a while. Who knew if the evil cultivator had left any traces behind? To be safe, she would set up her array flags first, and then stay at home for a year or two before going out.

Before she could set up the array flags, she had to make sure there was no residual poison in the basement.

Animals and people were different. Fortunately, there were death row prisoners.

That afternoon, Lynn Naya asked Scarface Qing to help her ask for a six-month leave from the herb forest steward and also to get her a death row prisoner.

Scarface Qing: “…”

There was no shortage of crime in the mortal district. There weren’t many death row prisoners, but there were some. Lynn Naya’s condition for the death row prisoner was that as long as he stayed in the basement for seven days, she would not only keep him alive, but she would also grant him one other legal request.

With that condition, a death row prisoner was quickly sent to her.

This death row prisoner was a lonely man. He had no other requests. He only wanted to have meat and wine with every meal.

That was easy to arrange.

Lynn Naya treated the death row prisoner to good food and wine for seven days. Every day, she would take him out of the basement and check for any signs of poisoning.

Seven days later, the death row prisoner was still lively and even in better spirits than when he first arrived. Only then did Lynn Naya finally feel at ease.

“Take him back,” Lynn Naya said. “But it’s better if you don’t come into this basement in the future. It’s best if you don’t come in at all.” The excuse she gave her neighbors was that she had made a mistake while concocting poison, and some poisonous gas remained inside.

She already had a Poison Canon in her possession, so the neighbors didn’t doubt her. “Alright, then you can use our basement if you need to do anything in the future.” Their three basements were connected, and there was a hallway outside the rooms, which was very convenient.

“No problem.”

In these seven days, Lynn Naya had already studied the array flags. That night, she set up the array flags in all three basements. She also gave her two neighbors a matching imprint that allowed them to enter and exit freely. Only then was the defensive array completely finished.

She didn’t tell her neighbors about the array for now. First, it was too difficult to explain the origin of the array flags. Second, she wanted to prevent a disaster from happening because of careless talk.

Now, seven days had passed, and the Dao Palace hadn’t come knocking. She assumed that her killing the evil cultivator had gone undiscovered. Since no one knew about it, it was best that no one ever knew.

With the array outside and the bracelet inside, Lynn Naya was still not satisfied.

Half a month later, Yun Xian returned. Lynn Naya told her that she had a feeling someone was watching their house.

Yun Xian frowned upon hearing this.

Three days later, it was suddenly discovered that a mortal cultivator was actually an evil cultivator in disguise. Before anyone could find out what was going on, the Dao Palace stepped in and formed an internal patrol squad to patrol the mortal district day and night.

Looking at the patrol squad passing by from time to time, Lynn Naya finally lay down on her bed comfortably. This time, she could finally get a good night’s sleep.

Author-san, when will we see full Mc's status screen, again? At the end of arc, maybe?

Кто-то Зачем тебе нужен?

Great chapter, thanks! Though as Robert points out, lethal protections on your residence that you don't know about are problematic at best, even if you yourself are safe from them.
