It's the last day of June! That means I've returned from my trip to Scotland, where I gathered so much inspiration and motivation to paint. I'm ready for a summer of drawing! ☀️ For those of you who like having a recap, here's an overview of everything I created this month ✨
This month's tutorial was on Artistic Roadblocks! This is such a personal subject for me, since I've hit roadblocks so many times in my 20+ years of drawing. Going through that made me realize that being able to draw long-term was incredibly important to me, so I developed a lot of techniques to achieve that. This video is full of all of my tips and advice, and is intended as a go-to resource for anyone who finds themselves unable to draw for whatever reason! I loved creating this video, and I hope you enjoy it too! Watch the full video here.

Since it's my latest tutorial, it will be available on the $5 spark tier for another month! After that, it goes to the backlog, along with 50 other tutorials. Join the spark tier if you want to grab it for $5! And if you want to access the massive backlog of over 50 tutorials, just upgrade to the $10 flame tier 🔥

This month's challenge was on painting clouds! I love this challenge because it is a perfect jumping off point to test our painting techniques. Clouds are so forgiving and indulgent to paint, so it's not only great practice, but also lots of fun! Here's what I created:

Next month's challenge will be posted tomorrow! If you're not yet a flame member, be sure to upgrade your tier to access the challenge - all information will be posted on the 1st!

As always, flame members also got access to the process videos (Part 1 and Part 2) and a resource video with tips and advice. This is a 20 minute long video in which I discuss my process, common mistakes, and run through the artwork that you guys posted in the discord! If you want to draw studies like this in the future, you might find it helpful. Watch it here!

This month, I jumped on the opportunity to practice my cat drawing skills! I love cats, as you probably know, but I find it really hard to capture the anatomy. I tend to draw them soft and fluffy, but cats can carry a lot of tension in their poses! So for these sketches, I tried to focus on their muscles and tension in their paws.
I also did a commission for the first time in a long time! I don't do commissions unless I really like the idea, and this one was right up my alley. It was for a sign outside of the new 3Dtotal studio space, which used to be a pub called the White Hart - a great jumping off point for a painting idea. I loved making this one!

I put together the process video for my White Hart painting because I wanted to share my process for doing a commission! I get a lot of questions about how I approach commission work, so I elaborated on that in the description of the videos - especially the first one, where I talk abou the brief and the feedback that I got. I split the process into two parts - you can watch Part 1 here, and Part 2 here!

This month's session was all about art styles! How to find it, what to do if you feel stuck in it, whether I miss my older style - stuff like that. Of course I went on a few tangents and I got a bit nerdy about history, which is my other passion that I might have pursued if I didn't become an artist. I got to talk about a lot of personal topics, which I really enjoyed! Watch the full session here!

Thanks for your support this month! I hope you'll stick around for a summer full of drawing and creativity! ☀️
