This month's challenge was on painting clouds! This is a great subject matter to test painting techniques on, and because it doesn't have to be painted so accurately, there's a lot of room for creative freedom. Painting these was really fun, but also challenging: whenever I decided to zoom in and push the detail, I felt like it was losing the sense of energy. I just want a good mix of loose, expressive brush strokes and small, sharp detail - and sometimes it's really hard to get that just right! So I struggled a bit with these, but in the end I'm happy with the results. I also just love painting clouds as if they were whipped cream - dense and heavy!
Flame members will also get the process videos, plus a resource video that talks you through my process and explains my creative choices in making this study. That will be going up in a few days, so keep an eye on your feed!
If you want to participate in next month's challenge, I’ll be posting it on the 1st! Just like last month’s challenge, it will include:
Tips and suggestions
Reference images
Inspiration images
A list of resources to help you complete the challenge
A bonus challenge for those who want to invest more time
If you want to participate and you’re not yet a flame member, be sure to upgrade your membership before the 1st to join! For now, I hope you like these drawings 🖤
