What I created this month // May 2025

It's the last day of May already! Can you believe summer is right around the corner? ☀️ Here's an overview of everything I created this month in case there's anything you've missed!

This month's tutorial was on how to steal a style! This isn't meant literally, of course 😅 It's more about how you can interpret and analyze a style so that you can extract elements for your own work. It was a really fun subject to explore, and I had so much fun making it! Watch the full video here.

Since it's my latest tutorial, it will be available on the $5 spark tier for another month! After that, it goes to the backlog, along with 50 other tutorials. Join the spark tier if you want to grab it for $5! And if you want to access the massive backlog of over 50 tutorials, just upgrade to the $10 flame tier 🔥

This month's challenge was on drawing underwater poses! Perfect for thoses of you who are also doing MerMay - but also just a great exercise in studying gesture and movement in poses. Here's what I created:

For next month's challenge, we'll be painting clouds! This is a perfect challenge for practicing hard and soft edges, and testing out your painting skills. If you're not yet a flame member, be sure to upgrade your tier to access the challenge - all information will be posted on the 1st!

As always, flame members also got access to the process video and a resource video with tips and advice. This is a 25 minute long video in which I discuss my process, common mistakes, and run through the artwork that you guys posted in the discord! If you want to draw studies like this in the future, you might find it helpful. Watch it here!

This month, I made some colorful art! I think it's all the flowers and plants that bloom this time of year - I always feel the urge to create colorful drawings in May. I created some colorful head studies and a drawing of my cat Chewie under the purple wisteria!

I also made a companion piece to one of my older paintings, Light Mode. I've since switched to dark mode on my computer, and my eyes feel so soothed. I felt it was time to create some artwork to match!

This month, I shared the full process of my dark mode painting. To me, this painting is a good example of how I change things as I go and tend not to stick to my original sketch. I feel like digital art is so awesome because you never have to commit to anything fully - you can make as many adjustments as you want! And I definitely made use of that for this painting 😅 For this process, I decided to make some serious changes about halfway in. Watch Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 to view the full process!

This month's session was a real trip down memory lane! I already have a tendency to go on tangents, and this might be the most tangent-heavy session I've had yet 😅 I did some deep dives into my high school and college years, and talked about how one teacher's words and support changed the course of my life. Watch the full session here!

We're bringing back weekly questions! Right now we're still in the process of setting everything up. Once that's done, you'll be getting weekly discussion prompts that encourage you to share your art, knowledge, and tips with everyone else in the server. Keep an eye out for that!

Friendly reminder: all paying members have access to the discord server! If you’re not sure how to join the discord, just follow the steps outlined here.

Thanks for your support this month! I had so much fun creating art and sharing stories with you, and I hope you'll stick around for another month of creativity and inspiration ✨

Thank you so much for supporting me in creating this month's content and art! I'll be sending out links to this month's google drive folder today! Keep an eye on your inbox.
