EARLY ACCESS // chewie

Last weekend, I was hanging out in my backyard and made a little video of my cat Chewie relaxing underneath our blooming wisteria. It was just such a perfect little moment, so I had to draw it!

It also has a special meaning to me. Before we got this house, we lived in an apartment with a balcony and no garden. Back then, we had our first cat Charlie. I really wanted to get a place with a garden so that she could spend more time outside, relaxing in nature. She unfortunately passed away before we moved and I was always sad she didn’t get to experience this garden. But seeing our new kitties enjoying the garden with us is a healing experience - sometimes they remind me of her! I was thinking about that while painting this one. Hope you like it ✨

Check out all the images for the reference and a shot of Chewie after 5 minutes of sitting there (the wisteria is shedding petals fast)!

i love little slice of life moments. it's just that feeling of wanting to capture a moment in time and keep it forever - it can be really inspiring! your pup sounds like a cutie ✨

haha thanks! it was so cute, right? that was his brother Obi but they're both obsessed with water in some way. Obi likes to chase water around the garden when Arjen's watering it!

Love your video from IG stories where Chewie drinks water from the leaf! It looks like a new idea for a sketch :)

This is so beautiful! I love the more stylized approach and the way the colors are simply put together. I'm also very fond of these "freezing" moments: emotions of love encapsulated in simple ambients. I too love to watch my pup when she's basking in the sun, so peacefully...these are moments that should last forever. I think thanks to that, I will do some kind of painting like this- kind of an hommage to our furr companions (maybe this could be a theme for a monthly challenge of my own).
