Q&A // December

Here's the recording of the December Q&A session! It was a cozy and chill session and I really enjoyed talking about various topics with you - and veering far off-topic too, which is bound to happen during these sessions ^^;

Some of the topics covered in this session are:

I'm working on my setup and trying to figure out a way to get better video in my Q&A sessions, but I didn't manage to get it up and running for this session so the video is just my regular blurry webcam! I'll be tweaking my setup and bringing new and improved video for the next session, so keep an eye out for that ♥

If you have any questions, feel free to post your questions in the #ask-loish channel! I will do my best to answer them in next month’s session!

Hahaha as a Disney artist (disneyland paris here ! ) I hide Mickey heads EVERYWHERE. Bubbles, dalmatians spots, clouds, trees. That's a SPORT here haha !

Just started listening to the Q & A, wanted to say that I totally support the strategies you've put in place to keep things interesting for yourself when it comes to making tutorials. It's so important to find ways to keep it fun. Personally I like the not knowing and getting to wonder what the next tutorial might be. And then I get excited when you share the month's upcoming content and I see the topic for the tutorial :)

I’m using mechanical pencils again/more often now for sketching….thank you for noting them in a previous video. ( they always allow for precise line ).👍🏻

Someone mentioned being inspired by ‘high fashion’. A big inspiration for me also. When I started at ACCD, I just missed a visit by the (famous) fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez. I remember purchasing various editions of ‘Vogue’ magazine and seeing his beautiful expressive illustrations. This was at a time when fashion illustrations often appeared in ‘Vogue’. Fashion photography became the norm, but using both the early illustrations and the great photos were my references. Just used them for basic ideas/pose geometry and gesture ref, but great figure/clothing references.

thanks rob!

i think that sums it up perfectly - awareness is key!

So glad something no longer holds you back from helping us. Genuinely valuable.

So interesting as always! :) I want to talk about my experience with ChatGPT. For me, I find it helpful for expressions in After Effects and code-related things... But for the creative side, I have mixed feelings about it. It could be very helpful, but at the same time, I find it sad that it could come up with ideas for me, and in some ways, it steals my imagination. So I stopped using it for that kind of stuff. I really want my art to be created from my head and my own ideas, not by AI. Also, I find it too easy to just ask for stuff and refer to it, and again, it just feels like it can become an habit to use it too much and, over time, develop some laziness and kill my problem-solving skills. So before using it, I'm often asking myself if it's really needed or if I can find the answer I want by myself. So, in short, it's a powerful tool but one to use with awareness.
