What I created this month // November 2024

The last month of fall has passed - and I can definitely feel it! It's been cold and icy here in the Netherlands, and honestly, I love these darker and more cozy days. Here's an overview of everything I made in November!

This month's tutorial was on painting foliage and complex detail! I really like this topic because it's all about organizing your detail in a way that creates the illusion of complexity, without having to painstakingly draw each detail. So it's not only about foliage, but also about efficiency! I think the same principles can apply to so many different things. Watch the full tutorial here!

 This month's challenge was on drawing the same head from multiple angles! This one was tough but rewarding. Here's the art I made:

For next month's challenge, we'll be studying smoke and fire. I'm so inspired by the gorgeous effects animation that I saw in Arcane, and I'd love to channel that into the December challenge! This month was all about purple! I think the darker days are triggering an interest in this more deep and mysterious color. I created some winter-themed speedpaints and a soothing flower study!

I also finally sat down and created a more detailed painting! It's been a while since I did that, but since I had more time this month, I got to spend more time with my art - something that's so rewarding but also a bit scary because it can really raise my expectations and trigger some perfectionism. I really enjoyed creating this one though!

For this month's process video, I wanted to show you how I created my tree study! It was the first time in a while that I used textured brushes quite heavily so I figured it would be an interesting variation on my usual workflow. This month, I had some technical issues: the livestream went well, but I found out too late that OBS didn't record any audio, so I couldn't post the livestream session.
