What I created this month // October 2024

My favorite month of the year has come to a close! I had such a great time and I'm looking back on it with a huge smile. Here's an overview of everything I made in October!

This month's tutorial was on Creating Emotive Art! I really enjoyed making this tutorial because it was such a mutilayered topic. It's about coming up with ideas, having an intuitive workflow, and optimizing your creative process so you can channel your mood into your art. It features 5 different ways to give your art an emotive feel, and of course has lots of tips and advice too. Watch it here!

This month's challenge was on creating expressive cat studies! It's a great way to practice your animal drawing skills, but also to create some fun halloween-themed art - because everyone knows that black cats are the ultimate halloween mascot! Here's what I created:

For next month's challenge, we're going back to fundamentals and drawing the same head from different angles! This will be a great way to practice construction and understand how the head looks in a 3-dimensional space. If you want to participate, be sure to join the flame tier - I'll be posting the information, reference and resources tomorrow!

As always, flame members also got access to the process video and a resource video with tips and advice. This is a 20 minute long video in which I discuss my process, common mistakes, and run through the artwork that you guys posted in the discord! This month I returned to one of my favorite subject matter: trees, leaves, and elements from nature! It's been a while since I drew a landscape, so I drew an autumnal nature scene. I was also inspired by pink leaves, which I always found incredibly beautiful and incorporated into a character painting!

I also did a sketch session where I explored the idea of a girl surrounded by shapes, giving her a trapped feeling. I also made a digital version of that same idea which ended up being more serene and harmonious. This is an idea I definitely plan to explore more in a future painting!

For this month's process video, I wanted to share how I created my autumn landscape speedpaint! That's because it uses so many techniques that I've explained in tutorials, so it's a great refresher. I also created an extra process video for my factory painting that I created in 2021. A patron requested this process video and I still had the screen recordings, which is why I uploaded these! You can always request to see the process of an older artwork if you're curious to see it!  Every month, flame members can ask questions and have them answered in an exclusive live Q&A session! This month's session had a lot of recurring themes around finding the courage to puruse what you really love, despie what the algorithm or our own fears tell us. You can watch the full video here!

Me and the discord mod team had a couple of meetings in October to plan a really fun server event for next month! We're going to announce it soon, so keep an eye on the server updates to hear more. Long time discord members probably have some idea what it will be... 🎅
