This month's tutorial is about creating emotive art! It's basically about how I channel emotion into my work, and also talks about different ways that you can put the focus on emotive themes in your own art. It is not about drawing expressions - that's a different topic that I covered in my constructing faces & expressions tutorial - but more about how you can get a stronger sense of mood and emotion in your artwork!

The brushes I used were the MaCaLabs HB pencil brush for sketching, and the hard round brush from my own brush set for blending colors.

I also spent some extra time working on the drawing after the tutorial was done. Here's the outcome of the demo, with the more finalized version of the drawing all the way on the right:

There are a bunch of tutorials I've made which are helpful to watch alongside this one.
Choosing colors: This tutorial shows my workflow for choosing colors intuitively, and runs you through the specific tools that I use to achieve that - a workflow I use in this tutorial as well, so if you found that this tutorial moved a little too fast, check out this one for more information on the specifics of this workflow.
Lighting as a design tool: This tutorial shows you how you can use lighting purely as a tool to make your art look more immersive and interesting, but most importantly, it elaborates on the idea of using visual elements purely to further your own artistic idea, rather than as something you have to convey "accurately."
Constructing a pose: This tutorial demonstrates how I construct poses and think about adding rhythm and visual interest to them, prinicples that I use a lot in this tutorial video.

As always, here is the cheat sheet with essential information from the tutorial, which you can also find attached to this post as a PDF file with clickable links:

I hope you enjoy this video and that it helps you to find a more intuitive, emotive approach to creating!
