As always, I created a monthly tutorial video! This one was more of a lecture-type format and was about creating an artistic routine. I love making videos like these! It's about which steps you can take to build a routine that matches with your own schedule, artistic goals, and interests. It's intended for those of you who want to get a routine going, but aren't sure where to start. Watch it here!

This month's challenge was on drawing poses with simple & expressive shapes! Simplifying your art is so much harder than it sounds and it actually takes so much trial and error to capture a more simplified design. I definitely tried out a lot of different approaches before landing on something I liked! Here's what I came up with for this challenge:
Next month's challenge will be more technical: we will be studying glossy surfaces together! September always reminds me of apples, and that's one of the objects you can study in this challenge ๐ If you want to participate, be sure to join the flame tier - I'll be posting the information, reference and resources on the 1st of September!
As always, flame members also got access to the process videos (this month there were two of them: my warmup session and the final sketch session) and a resource video with tips and advice. This is a 20 minute long video in which I discuss my process, common mistakes, and run through the artwork that you guys posted in the discord! This month, I tried to challenge myself! I tried to draw some extreme emotions that pushed beyond my comfort zone, and I also did a self portrait for the first time in years. It took me a while to get into the flow of these but I'm glad I made them!
This month's process video showed my process for creating my emotion sketches! I wanted to share it because my initial sketch is so different from the end result. I depend a lot on the rendering/painting phase to get the details just right for an expression, which means they change a lot throughout the process. Watch it here!
Every month, flame members can ask questions and have them answered in an exclusive live Q&A session! This one was very personal but in a really nice way - I really enjoyed the honest and open questions that you all asked. We discussed what makes a good reference image, how to get past feeling 'stuck' with your art, my newsletter, and mental health for artists. You can watch the session here!

Can you believe the -ber months are starting tomorrow? I'm so stoked! I can't wait to go full pumpkin spice core. Autumn is my favorite season of the year! Who else is looking forward to crunchy leaves and crisp temperatures?
