QUESTION // do you struggle with colors?

Hey patrons! Last year, I did a few tutorials which involved doing paint-overs of some of your art - first on faces, then on poses. This month, I'd love to do a similar type of tutorial on colors. I got a question about this in last month's Q&A session and it made me think: I do believe that doing some adjustments and paint-overs could be really helpful when it comes to giving tips on how to make colors work together!

Do you struggle with colors, and are you willing submit your art for me to use in next month's tutorial? It would be ideal if you had a painting or drawing lying around that gives you the feeling that the colors are not working well together. If you're ok with me adjusting your artwork in my tutorial, you can email me at info@loish.net with your drawing and I will make a selection from those!

Keep in mind that I will be painting over it and changing your art, and that your art will be included in the video for all to see. (To get a sense of how I do that, you can watch the pose tutorial here, and the face tutorial here.) If that's something you're ok with, please submit your art!

And if you have specific struggles but don't want to submit your art, post it below - I will try to address it in the tutorial! Thanks so much everyone ❤

Yes plz! Color theory is something I need to put more time into!

Rose

Most of the times I use way too saturated colors and I end up desaturating the whole thing several times before it looks acceptable. I think I need to choose the colors with more intent before I put them on my canvas instead of choosing them as I go further in the painting process...

BabyBlue

Yeees i’m so bad at picking colors

Anto_022

It feels like I know theory, but I can't put it in practice. Also, feels like I always struggle, when planning portraits, when you can't go wild with hair/clothes' colour. How - having those limited to certain colours - make sure the end result pops?

AppreciationOwl

I have same issue! Especially between phone and iPad :(

AppreciationOwl

Do you ever run into trouble of having two screens which present your colours differently? I have a laptop and a secondary monitor and sadly no amount of calibration can put them on the same settings - any advice on how to approach this with digital art? How to know which has the "real" colours, or to simply aim for something inbetween the two?

VoidNoodles

Merci Loish de proposer un tuto de ce genre, ce sera surement très instructif et enrichissant comme toujours.

Delphine David

This is an awesome idea!! Thank you!

I'd really love to learn more about relationship between saturated/less saturated, warm and cold colors. How to use them to keep the artwork interesting but balanced?

Matcha Flavoured Frog

Yes, yes!!

Vivi Walker

I’ve been focusing a lot in the past on realistic colors and lighting, but I’m working now on stylising more my color choices and simplifying my color palette :) I would be super interested to hear your take on that.

Elise Leonard

Yes, I do!

Vakuu Void

I'll try and post some things. But for the most part my colors feel muddy. Like...they are wrong and gross.

Leaohness

Yes that would be a great topic to learn from you! I often get overwhelmed when I try to do a colourful digital painting. I have the feeling it‘s less intuitive and more difficult to choose colours and use techniques to get it right

Mimavi

Yes a lot. I know the concepts of value and color, but it's difficult to put in practice.

Vy

How to know you've chosen the best colors for your piece would be very, very helpful!

Melody

Like you wouldn't believe, I am colourblind which makes me avoid painting a bit! 😅

Richard Shepherd

I feel like when it clicks and is going well I’m on top of the world. I think the hardest part for me is figuring out when to evaluate/ask questions and what kinds of questions you ask yourself when you know it’s not working and things need fixed.

YESSS !!! 🩷🧡💛💚💙🩵 I go into painting feeling like Mucha and come out Pollock

Art Mancy 🔮

YES!!!!!

Dom Bronico

I would find it interesting! in fact, today I was doing some studies with digital watercolour and I noticed it was difficult to me getting subtle colors and volumes as I wanted. So it may be interesting 😁

Alicia JB

i don’t really struggle too much but i do have a problem using the same palette over and over again

Maria Smigielski Art

Ooh love these! Excited to see another one...also, I spend WAY too much time on LinkedIn, I was looking for a way to reshare this post LOL.
