EARLY ACCESS // plant studies

I’ve really been enjoying the lush green leaves this spring! So I took some snapshots during my morning walks and made some studies of them in procreate. My main goal was to keep these somewhat stylized - my natural urge is to copy the original photo which leads to kind of a boring result most of the time. Textured brushes really helped to keep these stylized and expressive. I used mostly maxpacks gouache for these. Hope you like!

that's interesting! i think that digital art makes it tempting to zoom in way too much. when you're working with traditional art you have a better sense of how it looks from afar. also, it's just too easy to use every single tool available and so it becomes kind of limitless!

i'm glad you like it! i also just posted the timelapse in case you want to see the process behind it!

Wow thank you for the inspiration! I'm currently working on a painting and somehow I want to make it look like you are looking threw a window into a garden. I just have the background layer on it right now but now i want to complete it! :)

Oh my gosh, these are simply gorgeous!

Wow, I love it ! ❤ I love Max pack gouache brushes, I bought them 2 yrs ago and still using it, the chalky effect of those is my favorite.

I'm glad you mention that "over-rendering" issue. I struggle a lot in finding the rendering/stylizing balance in my paintings. But I never had this problem in my old acrylics work. And also not when I sketch digitally. Only with my digital paintings. It's like I want to PROVE I can do better than this. So maybe it’s a mentally issue. Your plant studies look fantastic by the way. 🌱 You make the plants look cheerful and happy. That's art.
