UPDATE // this month's Q&A session
Added 2023-05-18 12:04:16 +0000 UTCHello flame patrons! This month I'll be doing a Saturday Q&A session again! I just really enjoy how low key these weekend sessions are. It will take place on Saturday May 27th, at 4pm CEST (unfortunately I can't do any later). You can use this time converter to figure out what time that is in your area!
I will be streaming directly into the discord server as always! It would be great if you can join, but don't worry if you can't - as always it will be recorded and uploaded here for later viewing.
If you have any questions you'd like me to answer for this month's session, feel free to post it below or post it in the #ask-loish channel over in the discord server! I'm looking forward to getting your questions and having a chat with you! ❤

2023-05-22 10:06:17 +0000 UTCdon't hesitate to send over a DM if you're struggling with it! once you're in the discord, it's fairly simple to join the session - you just go to the loish-q-n-a channel and watch there :)

2023-05-22 10:03:00 +0000 UTCHi Loish, I’d love to see you answer this question during the QnA. :) Since your post on your art references and inspirations, I had a closer look into MUCHA and LEYENDECKER. But what surprised me is how much they can stylistically differ. When Mucha is all about organic, floral and natural shapes and movements, Leyendecker approach seems more « squary ». His forms are way more geometrical, with harsh angles, even on women figures. How do you conceal these two universe into your drawings? Thank you so much !

2023-05-21 05:40:19 +0000 UTCHey Loish, thank you for all you do. These monthly Q&As and Challenges really make my art learning more enjoyable and less isolating. My question relates to this months challenge as I’m wondering how much time and energy do you dedicate to researching and studying an area like the ocean or underwater elements in general before putting in work on the final? I have never drawn a scene underwater, let alone really render water, so it definitely feels daunting, it’s like on one hand you don’t want to go in cold not knowing anything but you also aren’t writing a 20 page essay that keep you from creating the art. What have your past experiences been like in finding the balance between research and illustrating? Sorry for the lengthy question but just been very curious to hear about other’s workflow tactics. Thanks

2023-05-19 21:26:20 +0000 UTCAs a long-time follower of your work, I really appreciate how much of your thought process you’ve shared here on Patreon. I only wish I’d signed up earlier. I apologize if you’ve talked about this before, but have you ever felt like you’ve slipped into the “uncanny valley,” with faces in particular, then deliberately pulled back to a more simplified approach with less defined detail?
2023-05-19 16:05:34 +0000 UTCThanks for being so responsive!😊

2023-05-19 10:35:37 +0000 UTCgreat question! i will talk about it during the session but i do think it's fine to just work on faster pieces. truly nothing wrong with that if that's all you have time for! in fact many artists i follow online only do quicker pieces.

2023-05-19 10:13:32 +0000 UTCoh i'd love to talk about theme parks! and please don't hold back on asking more deep and serious questions, i don't struggle to talk about those things at all and if it's too heavy, i will just skip it!

2023-05-19 10:09:34 +0000 UTCHey Loish! Thanks for all the tips and tricks. Quick question here. Is there a way you started procuring money in the beginning or did you just focus on getting better until people/opportunities came to you? Thanks, I appreciate the opportunity to learn from you!
2023-05-18 18:57:56 +0000 UTCHey Loish! Im so grateful that I joined your Patreon! 🤎Have you ever had doubts in yourself as an artist that you're not gonna make it? that you won't have an ability to make art as a career? If you haven't experienced that , what would you suggest for someone who feels this way?

2023-05-18 14:37:34 +0000 UTCI have a lot of deep and serious questions. But since you're not doing so well, I'll keep this one a bit more lighthearted. 🤜 Let's talk about theme parks! You like the style of Disney… But do you also like to be immersed in that world by visiting the park? And as a Dutch girl, how do you feel about the style and park of De Efteling? 🍄🐸

2023-05-18 13:37:07 +0000 UTCHey loish! Thanks so much for doing these Q&A’s. I am having trouble making completed illustrations. Sometimes I feel all I have time for is practice since I have a full-time job that isn’t art. Any tips?
