Looking forward

Hi all,

During today's meeting, we were all forced to look at some very difficult truths regarding our personal situations, our financial state, and the development as it has been progressing. Ultimately, we have all come to the same conclusion: we are currently not getting enough to support for Envoy to continue as it is.

This is obviously very difficult for us to admit as we have all grown attached to the project and don't want to see it die, but with circumstances being what they are we have had to talk about what our options are going forward. We would like to say that we appreciate the support we have been getting from all of you and we understand that not everyone is in a position to back us. We would certainly not place the blame on our fans nor on ourselves for the situation we find ourselves in; it's just a result of the current climate and various factors in all of our personal lives.

That said, we wanted to be open with all of you and share with you what we believe to be our only three options for moving forward. Since all of you have been kind enough to support us, we think you should have a say in how we proceed.

Please let us know what you think by voting for one of the options below. Thank you all again and much love from the whole team.

option 1

Option 1

Ouch, that is quite the sad news to start off the new year. But perfectly understandable (and also commendable, to face and admit the reality of things). I would personally go for option 1. It would be unfortunate and surely a blow to the team's morale to both say "farewell forever" to a project you hold dear and exclusively be able to work on small products while there is clearly potential and drive to do so much more than that. I see no problem with putting Envoy on hold for some time, while the financial (and everyone's schedule) situation gets better, but it would be a shame to just discard it completely. That being said, I am utterly relieved to see that out of the 150-ish votes on the Discord poll, there is absolutely not a single one that went for option 3. Even though, like most things in the world, this is something that will inevitably happen eventually in the (hopefully very distant) future, seeing the company disband already would be a massive bummer. Take all the time you need, but please don't toss the whole project out.

Mister Dummy

There is also the option to scale down the game which I have noted they did not ask about. Or doing a Kickstarter.

I think Option 2 would be best. It would get your name out there more and allow a steadier stream of income with less turnaround time and still attract a general audience who may not want to subscribe to a monthly Patreon. I definitely want you guys to stay together and keep going. At least Option 2 will give you a fighting chance rather than shut it all down.

Option 1 or 2. But more option 1.

Sans Nom

I guess what it boils down to is Option 1, but still selling the games to the public instead of keeping them exclusive

No Way

was that not option 1?

Andrew Nelson

Just to add a bit, you could let the community do the brainstorming for you on what those smaller scale projects could look like. Bound (heh) to be some good ideas in the inevitable heaps of BS

No Way

I don't really understand why Option 2 requires you to drop Envoy. You guys seem passionate about it, and that's also important to "keep at it" in the long run. I think some small scale stuff might actually be good anyways, hopping from one huge project to the next might have been too ambitious. So my vote would be Option 2, but without dropping Envoy entirely. Keep it on the back burner and chip away at it while hopefully getting some quick cash infusions with early access for backers and public sales.

I dont have a discord. But i would say option 1. When i started fixing my house i would get just enough money to make whatever i was fixing functional. Then save up to finish it and make it nice. Now when i think i have enough to completely finish a project on my house. I wait until I have atleast 1.5x as much i calculated it costing. This way i don't have to stop and comeback to it later. I have faith you will figure it out and make it work with time. Don't give up. You have excellent content.

Option 2.

Simoan Blarke

Option one or 2. How much would you guys need to keep going at full production?

Dallyne Gardner

Option 1 or 2.

Option 1, I love your work so much, but there’s no need to rush things. So, take all the time you need to sort out your situation. Your own lives and priorities come first.

I think it’s good to be honest with yourselves and your supporters. Too many other companies and creators bluff and put out shoddy work that no one is proud of. I been a supporter for some years now and will continue no matter your decision. Personally I think option 1 to put the project aside for now. You can always abandon it later if it never quite comes together. Make the good stuff that you can for the time being. All the support and love in the world to the whole team and happy new year

Unclebumtash

Option 2 would probably be the best option. You should definitely focus on smaller games that should be released to the public so that you can make money off of everything, rather than them just being Patreon/subscribestar stuff. I’m just not quite sure why option 2 would require dropping Envoy entirely.

Option 1 for me
