EARLY ACCESS // orange studies

I need to get back into the flow of drawing after visiting lightbox earlier this month! I’ve been feeling drawn towards warmer color palettes and chunkier shapes. For these studies, I started with a bright orange base color and layered more muted tones on top of that. I always love the effect that gives, as if the warmer color is shining through the character! It’s a technique I also love to use when I’m painting with acrylics. It’s a lot of fun to do if you haven’t tried it yet!

I would like to have some more, but I am wagering you are drowning in work these days. If you end up making another similar one in analog space I am all over buying it if it is for sale :D

yesss i used the same technique with the acrylic portrait here! thanks once again for purchasing my work, really appreciate it :)

that could definitely yield some interesting results with gouache, since the paint tends to re-blend a little with every new layer!

haha yeah same! it's a cycle i go through every couple of years as an artist. chunky to smooth, back to chunky!

That painting I have of yours fits that bill and would probably really like a sister :D https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkwRE8MFf1/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link just sayin, if you still sell originals these days. :)

I really love the idea of starting with a neon palette and working over top of it, how coooool! It reminds me a bit of a technique i've seen used in oil painting

Whoa these are so cool! or maybe I should say warm? LOL. The electric hues really add an interesting pop of color to the characters! I'll have to give that technique a try sometime with digital and gouache!

looks great - and thanks for including the preliminaries, they make the process much clearer.

I really love these chunkier shapes. I have such a hard time letting myself do that, the urge to smooth it all out is ridiculous LOL
