EARLY ACCESS // self portrait

it's definitely difficult! people who know me in real life can see that my self portraits come close but aren't quite me. i'm still trying to get it right haha!

I love your self portraits, you’re very good at capturing your likeness. I find it hard to do wend drawing self portraits for some reason. It weird cuz I don’t have that problem when drawing other people

I love doing self portraits. Drawing yourself somehow bring more empathy to yourself as well, which is welcome in time of stress. Hope all that is going on in your life turns out ok :)

thanks greg! I guess I always gravitate towards using my art as a logo rather than my own face, haha. maybe that will change at some point!

I've always wondered why you chose what I have to call the "four flower girl"for your logo. Maybe a new image like this one (when you are happy with it) would be a good refresher. In any event, it is a fine portrait, although the strong light from the left belies the fact that real you has darker hair.

Oh! That‘s a good idea. If instead of thinking through different options, I simply make sketches and put them in my mock-up page, it should be much easier to decide. I feel a tiny bit stupid now - but in a good way. 😅

that makes sense though. in hindsight things always feel.. contained and manageable, even if they were hard. it helps to remind myself that in the future i'll look back on this time and feel differently about it than i do now!

thanks so much kat! i think little cartoon versions of ourselves also count as self protraits, they can say a lot about not only how we look but also our style and taste :)

haha reverse body dysmorphia sounds like it would result in some lovely self portraits though? also, they're much more interesting if they can convey something about who we are on the inside!

Changes can be scary, especially if we didn‘t ask for them - I guess, if we do, we call them adventures. I hope most of yours turn out good in the end. I haven‘t done a self-portrait in a while, but I am currently in the process of website building and want to do one for the „about page“. I am dragging my feet on it though because it scares me a little.

I don't do self-portraits. I have reverse body dysmorphia. I think I'm more attractive than I am. I think you look great and your portrait is spot on. I'm 50 this year, so many changes I don't even recognize myself anymore. I guess it's a good thing that I remember myself during better days. 😆 🤣

ooh I love it! I've always been a fan of your self portraits, its been really cool to see how they've evolved over the years, much like you have as a person I'm sure. Going through big changes can definitely be scarey. As someone who's moved around a lot, changed careers, jobs, lifestyles, etc. Its definitely been a lot, but I'm grateful because it made me who I am thus far. I'm excited for you :) As for portraits of myself, I started one a few years ago, but I never got around to finish it lol. I did create a chibi version of myself and I tend to use it here and there for presentations.

To be honest I think you've captured yourself perfectly, since I have come to know your art I have always thought that you have one of those faces that will always look younger. As for change, it will happen with or without our help just embrace and feel blessed each time your given another day:)

Yeah I did few times, but people keep telling me it's not 100% alike. It's reminding, people see it's me but it's not a copy of my face. Maybe we just see ourself a bit different then others 🤔

I have always been wildly inspired by your self portraits but honestly have hardly ever used myself as reference, and haven’t completed an actual self portrait… ever. It’s strange to think about, and probably quite limiting! Considering it now, I think that’ll be something I do before year end. Thanks again for the beautiful inspiration. ^_^

Amazing work ❤️ I love the how the darker areas of shadow on the hair around the face became interest points where my eyes jump a little and made me focus again on the face.

I've made my first self portrait this year and it was so daunting. I had set up a mirror too and I noticed it was very hard to capture myself from the mirror without going into semi realism proportion wise. In a whole it took me three weeks as i decided to paint myself at a certain time of the day which captured a specific light in my room which made me look yellow gray because i have an aqua wall. It was freaking hard, made it more smooth than i am tho. But it was fun :3 It's cool to see you use "real life" colors in your style!

Your self portraits over the years are some of my fave! <3 I don't know but, while we can't teleport to the future to find proof of where all these changes can lead and decrease that anxiety a bit, I think looking back to the changes you've already been through via your past self-portraits... that sounds like such an inspiring journey to make. Proof that everything leads you exactly to where you need to be and who you're becoming. A bit philosophical perhaps, but this is what came to mind as I was reading this. :)

I understand! I also feel a lot of anxiety about changes, even positive ones! I have never done a self-portrait, I am too embarrassed. While I have done dozens of portraits of so many people. I think yours is very well done and you have captured your personality well.
