Finally finished this painting that I first created a rough version of back in March! I’ve been stuck in a pattern of over-rendering my paintings lately, so for this one I wanted to take a more minimalistic approach and keep the feel of the original rough version intact without painting over it too much.
One thing that really had a huge impact was copy/pasting a picture of a frozen lake onto the ice, and setting that layer to overlay. It felt a bit like cheating, but it worked so well that I had to keep it in there. It just instantly created that unique ice feeling: smoothness but also cracks and tiny details at the same time. In the images above you can see what the painting looked like before and after adding this texture to the image! I ended up painting over it in many areas to blend it in with the painting. I’m working on putting together a process video for this painting for those who want to see how I made this ~ hope you like it and have an amazing weekend everyone!
