EARLY ACCESS // no girl

It’s been a year since I last created some sketches of my OC No Girl, and I felt like drawing her again! I’m having fun with this blocky colorful style I’ve been using more and more lately. This was something I struggled with a lot two years ago when I started this Patreon: I felt like all of my sketches became bland once I rendered and detailed them. But lately I’ve been enjoying the rendering process more and feeling happy with the final result. Hope you like these too!

This is probably one of my favorites... cute, and bratty...

No girl is always one of my favorites <3

Melissa

of course!

Can I draw this character? It's literally all my favorite colors in one design lol

hey noukah! there's not really a background story. i just started drawing this character in 2004 (i think). i just liked the mix of a super colorful style rooted in my childhood inspirations, and a negative attitude. i guess in a way that reflects my own personal tastes (i always loved fun colorful stuff but also felt drawn to dark and negatie things at the same time).

thank you! and they're a weakness of mine too, haha :)

Loish

haha no idea! a lot of people have said that actually. i do access the tool from "tool presets" rather than the brush panel, maybe that ensures that it has the right look and feel?

Loish

thanks kat! she has no backstory so it's very easy to allow her to evolve with time. that's something i enjoy about drawing her!

Loish

yeah i get that for sure! i think all you can do is try to maintain your focus and keep checking your progress against previous stages of the drawing, to make sure you're not veering off into a technique that you don't want to use.

Love this style so much, I have moved more towards a raw, harder edge style the last year… but I still struggle with it & revert back to a more realistic style unconsciously. Any tips on how trigger the subconscious, once in that zone where your tuned out would be appreciated.

Ah I always love seeing NO Girl :). She seems to be growing and evolving just like you are as an artist and its amazing!

Why does the MACALABS pencil brush looks awesome when you use it and butt ugly when I use it?! XD

Ahhh so happy to see No Girl again! And definitely loving the new fluidity of colour render 😁🧡

It's SO organic, and I'm loving the new direction in color you've been taking. Iridescent pastels are such weaknesses of mine. Please more like this Lois!! <3

I like to imagine that she is the queen of honoring her own boundaries.

Amber

So gorgeous!!! Love the body proportions and color choice!

These turned out great! Wish I'd be able to make such crisp rough paintings one day. By the way, I've always wondered about the origin of No Girl? Bet you get asked about her a lot( sorry if that's the case!) but is there any background story about her somewhere?

Noukah

I love your recent work so much! The shapes are so expressive and I like the more blocky blending! Those spots where the hair merges with the background <3 <3 <3

Simone Mändl

Love the colours and expressions! You truly inspire :)

Cezary Łobiński

happy to hear that!

thanks so much emily :)

All of my favorite colors in one place, looks fantastic!

I’m not sure bland is the word I’d use for the stuff from two years ago. You inspired me to go back and take a look, and the stuff that’s oldest is often relying on quite soft lighting. There’s a creamy, glowing feel to them. The newer pieces use less painstaking blending, more hard edges yet they retain the soft feel. You’re using a lot more hue shifts to get colors across, so this piece feels a lot more lively. You’re also picking a wider variety of lighting schemes! I feel like your art is growing more and more you as you have free space to explore and play, and it’s always cheering to see a new post from you.

your pictures always give me motivation and hope that I can go back to illustration as something to make an income with, at least partly. After years of a failed Design career, it's still your pictures that keep my artistic spirit high. Thank you so much for this

LOVE these colours! 😍
