PROCESS VIDEO // abundance, part 3

Here's part 3 of the process for abundance! Part 1 is here, and part 2 is here. Just like the previous videos, this has been sped up 1.5 times.

This stage of the painting process is all about finalizing and so it’s a bit tedious. I constantly zoom out, observe which area needs work, and then zoom in again to finalize that specific area. I also want to elevate the detail, so I’m adding patterns and details to the pumpkins that bring some nice complexity to the artwork. In order to keep the style consistent, I’m using the hard round brush for everything, and sometimes the lasso tool, but no textured brushes - I felt like that would clash with the soft and rounded feel of the painting.

This painting is a lot about vibrancy, so at certain points I make a new layer set to ‘overlay’ and paint some bright reds and warm yellows on that layer to amp the warmer tones. This is something that works when used in moderation - if I use it too much it starts to overwhelm the color scheme.

Allright, that's it! Hope you enjoyed the process for this painting and as always, let me know if you have any questions! Lots of folks have requested a tutorial on rendering and finalizing, which I find to be a difficult topic because it's such a tedious and time consuming process that doesn't lend itself very well to a tutorial. So if there's any specific aspect of this finalizing process that you'd like to know more about, let me know, because maybe that will help me look at it differently and have a better angle for a future tutorial video!

Have a great weekend everyone!

hey benjamin! you can speed it up using the player. Just adjust the playback speed there. the video itself is sped up 150%, so if you speed it up twice it'll be even faster. unfortunately I can't do faster videos than that, because then I'd have to render out and post multiple versions for each video and it's just too much work. apologies for that!

Loish

Would u ever consider posting speedpaints that are at higher speeds (like the one you recently put on ur insta story. Sometimes the x2 is still a long time I like watching slow as well but sometimes it’s nice to see a fast process video (hope I didn’t write this in a way that sounds demanding love your work as always💕)

Benjamin Klapper

thank you 😊

hey christina! to print it I just save it as a high resolution JPG and upload it to whatever site I'm printing with. JPG is not a great file format but if your image is reallllly big it should still be ok. for web, I downsize it to about 700 pixels wide and add a signature to it. sometimes I'll add some noise too. that's about it!

Loish

I love love love this. question .. what is your export process? like what do you do to have it to print, or post?

Christina May

thanks so much rob!

Loish

hey anna! I usually take several days to do it. I used to finish my art in one sitting, but physically I just can't do that anymore - my arm starts to ache and it really strains my body. but also, I've found that it helps to take breaks from the art and return to it at a later point, so I'm ok with splitting it up into shorter sessions.

Loish

thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you find the content here helpful to have a better mindset, to me that's the most important thing for artists. As for your question, I haven't really found a hard round brush in procreate that feels the same as in photoshop. I think there are just too many differences in the hardware and software. Pressure works differently, so I've stopped trying to replicate it. But I think any brush that has a nice painterly effect can help get you in the "shapes" mindset while painting. hope this helps in some way!

Loish

Thank you very much. This is my favourite drawing now i just love the colors, shadings, and i love autumn. I look on this 3 video process and i have never noticed before that you shade with shape by drawing with line and then you the shape coloring. It is really interesting. I have problem with painting because i am just more used to drawing. But this look really good way have control with the shape. And i when you use round brush in photoshop. Do you think the round brush in Procreate is same or it is better little change settings? And how change the settings for better similarity? Thank you Loish. You are so awesome person and you are my biggest inspiration now. I just love you work and your personality. You help me love more my drawing and be kind on myself and care on my mental health and mindset when i drawing.

Hi Loish! 🥰 Your work is just incredible! 😍 Tell me, please, do you prefer to complete the drawing in one day or do it in parts over several days? You said that your drawing took 5 hours of work, and that inspires me a lot! I would also like to achieve such productivity and speed in work 🤩

Anna

What a joy to watch you.
