Here's part 2 of the process for abundance! Part 1 is right here. Just like the previous video, this has been sped up 1.5 times.
At this stage of the painting, the ponytail was bothering me. I felt like it created too much empty space in the composition, because it was so tall and high. I wanted it to be more compact and close together, so the first thing I do is delete the ponytail and try out some different shapes and directions for it. After that I start populating the painting with more detail so that it all feels more round and full.
I was going for a rounded and sculpted look and feel, so at this point in the process Iβm painting over much of the linework and just focusing on shapes instead. Once the shapes are working I re-introduce some linework again, but this time following the shapes that I set down. Ideally I would have nice rounded lines to start with and just stick to those, but I find that I only really get a sense of those shapes when Iβm painting, so I usually end up just re-doing lines later on in the process.
With this kind of painting, I usually focus on rendering one specific area first before I move out to the rest. Thatβs because Iβm searching for a stylistic approach that works, and once I've found something that 'clicks,' I can then apply it to everything else. In the case of this painting, I did that with the face and hair. Once I had found a way of painting those that I liked, I then jumped to other areas to apply that treatment to that part of hte painting. I reach that point around 53 minutes in to this video, when I move on to the shoes.
Part 3 is coming right up!
