EARLY ACCESS // wave

I finally got around to finishing the wave painting that I started last year! I can’t believe the thumnbails have been lying around and gathering dust for so long! I included some process shots as well. It was a challenge painting the water in a way that felt stylized but also believable and adding depth, but it was a lot of fun too. Very soothing with the organic shapes! Hope you guys like it :)

thanks so much! i'll make it available as a print at some point down the line, but i want to wait until my book has been released since i included it in there as a special artwork :)

Loish

I would love this as a print too! I surf & this really connects with me :D

Rachel Budzinska

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the info 😊

Martha Balaile

hey! I might release this as a print, but I want to wait until the new artbook has been released since I created it mostly for the book :) it will be released in june/july, so probably it will go up as a print some time after that!

Loish

I would looove this as a print. Is that in the plan?

Martha Balaile

thank you! they were mostly hand painted. that ended up being the easiest way to capture the blobby shapes, even though i tried a few different things before settling on that!

Loish

Cool to see the original concept and how it developed. I love the shapes in the water and how you so effectively conveyed the distortion of water in such a beautiful way. How do you create these beautiful shapes? Hand drawn? lasso tool? Other? Very inspiring.

i will definitely be making this one available as a print, yes! it might take a while because i want to keep it exclusive to the book initially, but eventually it will go up in my inrpnt shop.

Loish

This is stunning! I'm always mesmerised with how you manage to make materials as water and clouds look so yummy. Will this be available as a print?

Tina Kavčič

I was trying to find out what was missing in my work and I realized it was the fact that I wasn’t actually making pieces I wanted to make/ finished pieces. Looking at this gave me a new goal!

Lauren Nicole

this is so amazing Loish!!!

Roberto Quintero

This is very beautiful. I love the color choices! I can almost feel the sea foam and water that she’s touching. ❤️

Jac

What a great feeling you captured here - to be in the magical center of the most captivating part of a wave! The colors are excellent and I love the subtle shadows of sharks in the water above. I have a slight critique, I hope this is alright... the hand reaching out is deformed in an uncomfortable way. It goes a bit beyond stylized stretching, and i think because it's a hand it's much more noticeable. My suggestion - make her ever so taller by extending the thigh area, to give that feeling of reach a tad more tension and realism. Gorgeous work as always, thank you for sharing your process!

Vespora

so good!!! 😍

This feels like Avatar fan art in the best way. Your character, your idea, but it reminds me of water bending scenes from the show, and it suggests stories. Yes please! It draws me in!

Emily Cartier

hey nadia! i don't think i'll be participating, as I'm in need of a break. I might make some art for it but i'm not sure taking on a challenge would be a good idea. i'll be doing an inking tutorial this month though and i'll definitely talk through my supplies!

Loish

the lasso tool is so amazing for shapes like these! I draw them on the big wacom, yes (cintiq 27 inch).

Loish

i do believe that I recorded the whole process! I'll dig through my files and put a video together :)

Loish

What are your plans for inktober? I am hesitant to do drawings as a did 3 years in a row … I think you shared your ink supplies on Instagram, maybe good idea to copy it here? ((Unless you did that already)

NadiaMakesSomeArt

Wowww

NadiaMakesSomeArt

Boy, you have really got that lasso tool DOWN for your thumbs. I need to play with that process more. Did you do this on your big wacom or something else? I have noticed when you use your large one you get those great looping shapes that both you and Eleeza do so well.

Cluisdotorg

This is breathtaking 🥲

Ximena Xarau

This is sooo beautiful!!! I feel so attracted to water that every piece like this evokes many emotions in me, I love it :) Also, I find drawing water so difficult!!

Radka Kopecka (radu.k.art)
