EARLY ACCESS // little village

Another speedpaint inspired by my trip to France in June! This is a portrait of a little french village called Pagès. It’s one of those villages that is totally isolated and only has a few houses clustered together. I would have a hard time living there, but it’s so peaceful when we hike through!

I’m trying out different brushes lately to get more texture, which is fun but kind of knocks me out of my flow. I have mixed feelings about the end result, but I want to keep using more brushes in the future. If you guys have any specific brush sets that you like, let me know! I’m always on the lookout for new ones.

Sometimes being knocked off kilter is fun! It changes up the very day that can be mundane and be a new adventure!

Procreate has 2 standard brushes which give you that scratchy/lined look: Styx and Thylacine. I think Paperblue uses the latter a lot if I’m not mistaken.

Silvia Wipfler

I love the scratchy brushes you used, it gives the piece a nice flow and rhythm.

Silvia Wipfler

thanks so much greg!

Great to see your landscapes. You might try pushing the landscape colors into some of the intensities and colors you use for your figures. And forever thanks about how you share your work and explorations. You are an excellent teacher (and artist of course)!!

Greg Schultz

I also enjoy the Jingsketch and True Grit Texture Supply brushes mentioned above.

Spoopy Cat Studio

thank you!

Loish

I really love all the new textures you've been implementing into your paintings lately! It's a really nice touch.

Chelsey Bueckert

i'll check them out! i usually feel i'm missing texture and need to push it more in my art hehe.

Loish

Even better, Jing has a free sample set so you can try out his brush style to see if you like it. His Edge Control or Edge 2.0 brushes are THE brushes I’d rec for trying to duplicate the Maclabs brushes in Procreate.

Emily Cartier

I really like the True Grit Texture brushes but they may be a little bit overtextured for you ? ^^'

Amélie

I'm such a huge fan of his work. I will definitely check it out!

I can't afford the maclabs brushes at the moment but I subtitute it with the Jingsketch Procreate Brushset! It's super affordable and nice to work with. If you use JING you can also get a 10% discount. :)

Love the texture in this one! :) I often use Djamila Knopf's brushes, her sketch brush is particularly my favorite for shading.
