DEMO // pixiv drawfest

A few weeks ago I participated in Pixiv’s drawfest! The idea was for artists to demonstrate their process so others could draw along and post it to social media in the end, which is why I mention that as I'm wrapping up. Here’s the end result of my demo:

I’m uploading the video here because I feel like it’s a good overview of my process as a whole! My tutorials are more specific but this one goes all the way from sketch to colors and finishing touches. Hope you guys enjoy it :)

I have a whole post about brushes here - https://www.patreon.com/posts/step-by-step-i-34615265 ! let me know if that helps!

Loish

i loved this, this was so helpful! do you have any suggestions for alternative default brushes?

Someone

I always come back to this video. My fav one

Sharon Tu

Yes. Thank you. I asked the question before I finished the vid lol. Bad habit. But thank you so much

Sharon Tu

hey sharon! the lines are always set to multiply, as well as some of the shading layers. the rest are on 'normal' blend mode! does that answer your question?

Loish

glad you liked it!!

Loish

Thank you so much for this demo Loish ! 🙏🏼 It was great to see your work flow and a ' summary ' of sorts of many of the tips you'd comprehensively covered in specific tutorials 😅

Rohan

I love this thank you! After you merged did you put that layer before the flood fill color layer to Multiply?

Sharon Tu

thank you :) so helpful and inspiring ❤️

Gemma Varney

happy you liked it lynn!

Loish

This was so very helpful! I have a tendency to spend so much time focusing on all the tiny details that I forget to take a step back and just look at the piece overall and put my focus on areas that really matter. This helped me to work faster and still get a result that I am happy with! Thank you!

Lynn Zammit Russell

This was so helpful! Thank you for posting this Loish!

Derrick Haynes

thank you! I'm glad you find it useful :)

Loish

so glad you found it useful! for me it's always really important for the process to feel intuitive and straightforward. i don't handle complicated workflows very well!

Loish

haha bob ross is an eternal inspiration! the way he aways kept his cool during the creative process.. incredible. glad you enjoyed it!

Loish

Amazing! Beautiful drawing, and wonderfully explained! Thank you for sharing!

Matt

Loved this! It was perfect timing for me since I was at the coloring stage of a project, and it was so helpful to follow along :D thank you! (Also, your Bob Ross reference 🙌)

Iridescent

TBH I found 2D sooo complex for many years (I'm a 3D artist) even at uni where I have 4 different approaches to the subject and now I see this and all clicks now! I can see myself easily for a long run over this Patreon Thank you for keeping up with this project

Edwinter

I love this tutorial!! Thank yoou... helps i lot!

Bluebble

Great tutorial. The tip about adding some cell shading on another multiply layer sounds really good. Can't wait to try that!!

Jill Anderson

thank you, Loish for making this video. I'm a very big fan of you been following you for a long time.. cant wait to apply what I learned in my paintings.

amal a

hey pricella! thanks for the kind words! as for your question, I'm using a hard round brush with pressure linked to opacity, so at moments like that I'm not pressing down very hard. that results in a softer effect even if the opacity is set to 100% :) it will only be 100% if i press hard. hope this makes sense and explains what I mean!

Loish

thank you! i figure it's a good balance with the more specific tutorial videos!

Loish

Lois, thanks. This draw along video is a good way for us to see your drawing process.

Spucka

Wow Loish, this is absolutely brilliant! I learn so much when I hear you talk about how you make the decisions in your illustrations. I hope that if do you continue to render this, we will be able to get a talk through as well <3. I do have a question though, towards the very end at about 1:05:30, you were adding shadows to the eyelids, eye area and ears. You were going over previous lines but the color did not change, how did you do that? I noticed that it wasn't on a multiple layer and the opacity was at 100%, so I got a bit confused.

Pricella

Wow!! I really like this draw-along style of video, would love to see more like this in the future. Thanks for uploading! 💖

Liisa

Thanks so much for uploading it! I totally missed the live one.

Tatiana Machado

Thanks for uploading this!

Raquel Ardon

Thank you for sharing this with us, Lois! <3 I always appreciate it when you share videos + walkthroughs when participating in various events that we may not know about. So thank you so much for doing that. Can't wait to watch this later on today :)

Rali M.

This video has really helped me to see where my process could be more creative and intuitive - something I’ve been stuck with for ages! Thank you 😊

KerryJonesCreates

haha yep i totally get that. waking up at 5:45AM to introduce this video was rough :')

Loish

I see it!!! I saw this fest announcement , so happy I can see this recording and draw flower girl along with you!!! Did not feel waking up Japan time hahaha

NadiaMakesSomeArt

thanks for letting me know! Could you try once more? I just changed something about the settings that might fix the issue.

Loish

it should be visible to watch right away! could you try once more?

Loish

Wonderful! When will the video available? Can’t wait!

Rachael J. Sparks

Hi, Loish! Thanks for posting. However, for some time, I can not seem to access the videos, even the latest ones. I am entering the links via my Patreon, so not sure what could be the problem. I have been enjoying being your Patreon though, as you provide really nice quality work. Keep it up. All best! 🍀
