EARLY ACCESS // sketch session
Added 2021-05-06 09:10:30 +0000 UTCHere’s the result of a sketch session where I challenged myself to draw a little faster than I usually do. I also did a thing that I find super difficult and terrifying: drawing with solid lines, without establishing the basic shapes with a soft pencil brush first. Just going straight into it and committing to the lines I draw. It’s very counter-intuitive for me!
In general with sketches like these, I feel like the more detail I add, the less interesting the sketch becomes. On the other hand, the less time I have, the less I’m able to capture the distinctive details. There’s a sweet spot between the fast sketches and the longer sketches where I manage to focus on the movement, without sacrificing too much detail.

I really enjoy the flow of sketches from more sketchy to more detailed in the big picture, with my favorite one being the sketch in the top right. She just has the cutest feet and knees! Also the bowl looks a little like a conch shell in that one, which gives me the subtlest of mermay vibes.

2021-05-06 18:05:27 +0000 UTCWhen I would draw in figure drawing class pre iPad or digital times, I made myself draw with a sharpie since when I used pencils I could not decide anything. This reminds me to take some time daily to do that exercise again. Such amazing work.
