PROCESS VIDEO // mountain, part 1

I put together a process video for my mountain painting that I posted earlier this month! I was kind of shocked to discover that I had only spent about 6 hours on the whole thing. I usually spend much longer on a digital painting, especially ones featuring an environment or setting. I guess this one went a lot quicker than usual because I’ve been doing a lot more environment work in the last year!

This video features the first 50 minutes of the process in real time. You can speed it up or slow it down using the gear button in the play menu! This video shows quite well how I experiment and play around with a painting before landing on a final approach. When I had created the initial WIP, I liked the setup but I felt like it was just missing something. So I started experimenting with a kind of magical swirl, to give more story and meaning to the character. From the 29 minute mark onwards, you’ll see me drawing a bunch of shapes and lines and not really deciding on any specific one. Definitely feel free to skip ahead to the next video if this annoys you, haha! It definitely annoys me to look at but it is a more honest depiction of how I work!

Hope you like it - I’ll be posting the next two parts in a minute!

Oh wow this is really awesome! I usually have difficult times choosing color palettes when painting in digital, so this have been very helpful! It was also helpful, and very interesting l to see how you construct the perspectives and distance in the mountains with shading and lighting.

Loish

Is there sound on this video?

thanks! I do use a lot of references, especially when it's landscapes because I'm not great at doing those from memory!

Loish

Love your style! <3 Did you use any references for that painting?

NK

thanks so much!

This process show to us how you choose your color and i found it wonderful, the way you mix the colors in the sky and the perspective is inspiring.
