EARLY ACCESS // skintone studies

I’ve always been a huge fan of the art of J.C Leyendecker, especially how he gets a sculpted look to the faces and how he did the skintones. So I did some loose studies, trying to capture a similar sculpted quality. Leyendecker is one of those artists that always inspires me, I just never tire of looking at his beautiful paintings. Hope you like these, and most importantly: have an awesome weekend!

I love Leyendecker! I did not realize you were inspired by him too. His sketches/prep work fascinate me! I found one of his Easter covers for the Sunday post in a vintage store β€” it is my prized possession. 🌷🌷

in this case, rather than copy leyendecker's art directly i tried to apply it to a sketch of my own! that helps me adapt the things i see, and challenges me to intepret rather than copy!

It is very beautiful. How is your process to study other artists, really learn from them and not just copy them?

I usually just start with one base color and don't stray too far from that when picking highlights and shadows! these are also super inspired by Leyendecker who was amazing with limited palettes. I definitely recommend studying his work!

Loish

can you help us and share your color palette, I always have a problem keeping my color palette limited .. how you keep your colors limited?

KadisArt

Yeap! At first sight you can see the influence of Leyendecker :)

that's common amongst artists! I keep the inspiration going by mixing sketch & study sessions with longer painting sessions. the mix of both of these is really helpful for me!

I love these! How do you keep your inspiration going, I feel like I’m hitting a wall

glad you're enjoying it! the crisp rendered look... if i understand correctly what you mean by that, I think it's mostly a question of having soft blending and hard edges. I think people tend to go too much one way or the other and don't have a good balance of both. it's defiintley something worth making a video about in the future!

Loish

yes I believe that I recorded this one! will edit/upload it!

They look amazing, love the skin render ❀️

Devotionart

Love the aesthetic! I'm working on my skin rendering skills too!

Agreed, would love to see this

Two of my all time favourites artists together! Do you have video of this study? Also I'd love to see more studies of other artists.

I just love how you render out your pieces! I just became a patron this month and I have learned so much!! Arguably more than I’ve learned in art school so farπŸ˜‚ I think my biggest obstacle right now is pushing my digital paintings to that crisp rendered look. I get so far and then I just kinda fall short, any tips?
