UPDATE // the summer is almost over!

... and honestly, I'm relieved! We had a brutal heatwave here and it made it kinda hard to focus on drawing, haha. Not to mention, fall is my favorite season! Here’s a quick review of how this month went for me: 

ENVIRONMENTS

This month I jumped back into doing more environments. I usually draw them from reference and think of them as studies, but this time I wanted them to have more of an illustrative, storytelling feel. I feel like that really helped me to loosen up and enjoy the process more! I based it on a few different reference images at the same time, which allowed me to let go of the details and focus more on the overall feeling of the environment I was trying to capture. I drew most of them in quite a short time frame - between 2-3 hours. I’m happy I managed to do that and definitely want to do more of these environment pieces in the coming months! Process videos are coming up soon. I’m so grateful for all of your support in allowing me to experiment and learn new things, it’s been incredibly rewarding and I feel like I’ve improved so much in the last months because of that!

DIGITAL PAINTING

It’s been a while since I finished a digital painting! Sometimes I really need to dig up some old pieces and fire up that engine again. I tend to gravitate more towards sketches and studies so it really helped me to just post the WIPs at the beginning of the month and get your feedback on that. This always gives me a motivational push towards finishing some of the paintings I have lying around! I will probably be spending more time on the snake painting next month! 

TUTORIALS

After having wrapped up the third tutorial, I’m getting more and more into the flow of making these! I’m really enjoying this lecture style format. You guys voted for simple tricks for lighting/mood, which will be very different from the previous ones which were more about the first steps of setting up a drawing. I’m very excited to make it for you guys! I’ve gotten a few comments asking me to make a procreate tutorial in the future as well, so I will include that option in this month’s poll!
