SKETCHBOOK TOUR // 2012-2013 SKETCHBOOK

Allright guys, here’s my first sketchbook tour! This is my first time creating a video like this, and I’m so ENDLESSLY grateful for your support in allowing me to make it. This is my personal favorite sketchbook and one of my most filled ones, so the video ended up being quite long! I hope you enjoy it!!

Here’s some stuff that was referenced in the video:

Trichrome Blue - this is my animated short that I created for my graduation project from the Utrecht School of the Arts in 2009!

Trichrome Red - here’s some of the finalized storyboard and concept art!

Trichrome Yellow - here’s some of the storyboard and concept art for that also.

Let me know what you thought of the video and don’t forget to vote on which sketchbook tour I should do next month!! You can find the poll here.

Have an amazing weekend everyone, and as always, thank you SO MUCH for the support!!

This was so fun, informative and inspiring, thank you! I‘ve got to incorporate some of what you said into my own sketchbook practice - especially regarding the animal studies. Looking forward to what‘s coming next - I still have 7 months of catching up to do here 😅

Kolja Kähler

Thank you so much for sharing all of this wonderful information and your journey!

I loved seeing this sketchbook. Amazing and beautiful sketches!

Lisa Ward

Ah brilliant, it works now! Thanks!! Loving these sketchbook tours, and all your work. It's been so lovely to look forward to amidst the current crazy times!

Victoria

sorry about that, for some reason the settings of a bunch of my videos were randomly changed. they should all work now! apologies!

Loish

so sorry about that! looks like the settings were changed on vimeo. it should work now!

Loish

hi! yes, indeed is not possible to watch this video. Im having the same issue. Whenever you play it shows this text https://i.vimeocdn.com/filter/overlay?src0=https%3A%2F%2Fi.vimeocdn.com%2Fvideo%2F849690701_1280x720.jpg&src1=https%3A%2F%2Ff.vimeocdn.com%2Fimages_v6%2Fshare%2Fplay_icon_overlay.png.

I'm having a problem with this video, every time I click play it just shows some text. Really wanted to watch it, is it just me having this issue? 🙁

Victoria

Thank you This video make me more inspiration and want to sketching more like you 😊

EtaSōzō

yes, these are indeed moleskine! I do recommend these because the paper is nice and thick. handles ink quite well also (I draw a lot of my inktober stuff in moleskine sketchbooks!). but I've heard that there are cheaper books with the same quality.

Loish

Do you draw on Moleskine sketchbooks? Are they pretty good for drawing? If not, can you recommend good?

Nika

thanks so much :)

Loish

same, haha! but my life has changed so much, it's strange how little free time I have compared to then. I'm glad you liked the video!

Loish

I'm glad you enjoyed it!! :)

Loish

haha yes, I noticed this too when I watched it later! I think, becuase of the camera, it looks like I'm aggressively smearing the pages while in fact, it was more like light touching.

Loish

thanks so much! I have probably drawn cats and dogs before but this was the first time I really sat down with the intention of understanding their gestures and shapes. Definitely do sketch studies where you simplify the shapes and challenge yourself to draw fast! you will learn a lot by working that way :)

Loish

ahhh! thanks so much :)

Loish

thanks so much! haha i felt the same while making the sketchbook tour.. this was such a productive year for me and i miss working that way.

Loish

thank you! and yes, I think all artists struggle with this in some form or other, but they tend not to talk about that as much.

Loish

allright, it's fixed - volume controls are there :)

Loish

so sorry about that! this might have to do with my embed presets on vimeo. I'll fix this pronto!

Loish

glad you liked it :)

Loish

Thank you so much for this! I did not expect there to be any audio, it was so nice to have you explaining everything

Julia Wasala

I can't get audio on the video. From other people's comments it looks like people heard what you were saying but there's no volume tab, or settings available for sound, just picture quality - please help! EDIT - I listened to it on my phone while watching in on my laptop - I love technology!

Curly Claire

Thank you so much for sharing. It is great to have an opportunity to get to know you and your art process better. It is also nice to see the imperfections and that you as well can loose motivation and for example not finish sketchbook. I tend to get angry at myself for not creating enough art so if is good to know that even successful artists are not perfect.

Anna Aldüz

I really enjoy your sketchbook tour. I like your way explanation what is happening inside your sketchbook for example from where you took inspiration. Well done. After your video I find that I don't draw enough and I have to get to work :) Its really nice to see sketchbook like yours...thank you :)

Monika Kucharska

Dude this was so great! Love that you kept it positive without being braggy, and especially loved that you were constructively critical instead of overly self-deprecating which way too many artists do during sketchbook tours. Nailed it! (and the sketches themselves were obviously awesome)

Glenn Weaver

This was wonderful. I envy your focus and curiosity.

Dustin Resch

That was a beautiful sketchbook tour! Thank you for sharing! Were those the first cats and dogs that you drew?? I struggle with getting the shape and form of animals correct any tips?

SK

Tremendously enjoyed watching the video. It gave a HUGE insight to how you work, how you practice and develop your skills. The ONLY thing that really had me worried the whole time, is that you kept touching the pages and the drawings!! I held my breath every time you did that!! Don't smudge the drawings please!! Unless you have the pages fixed? Which you most likely did, because you're a pro. 😅

Nic

I really enjoyed this! It was really nice that you took the time to include all the original drawings of the remakes you were showing as well. Thanks for doing this so thoughtfully.

Axel Oil

Thank you so much for sharing! I love seeing how your style has changed over the years. And I don' t draw in a sketchbook as much as I used to either. Sometimes I miss it :)

Kat Craig

Absolutely enjoyed seeing your transition and search for a style <3
