Added 2020-01-17 13:42:25 +0000 UTCHere’s part 2 of the full process for BLOSSOM! At this stage, I had the colors and positioning of the image mostly worked out, and it was a question of detailing the background bit by bit. The messy, scribbly plants needed to be cleaned up.
Notes for this video:
- I’m working mostly on one layer, but every now and then I’ll add some details or paint a new plant on a separate layer and then merge it down once it’s detailed enough. This is especially useful if the plant has a gradient on it, because then I can lock the transparency and use the gradient tool to quickly apply that gradient. After that it gets merged on the main layer.
- Even though a lot of the details are being added at this stage, it’s a pretty intuitive process because the overall composition and colors are already there. It’s just a question of working with what I have. You’ll see that the colors I’m using to shade and detail are mostly picked off of other areas of the canvas.

thank you! i do set the size to pen pressure, and i often use a brush that also has opacity to pen pressure. gives a good mix of soft blending and hard, sharp detail. you can find that brush (it's just a standard hard round) in my free brush set here - https://cubebrush.co/loish?product_id=4jk2jw

2020-01-23 09:57:17 +0000 UTCI'm always kind of amazed to see how rough and paint-y other artists' work is upon viewing the process or seeing a high res, but with how smooth and soft your finished pieces look, I'm flat out flabbergasted to learn that most of your painting is actually hatching. Makes me wanna try some new things in my own work! Your art is so inspiring and seeing your process really makes me wanna play around with my own stuff. Do you set your brush size to pen pressure? I'm not familiar with Photoshop (something I should fix) and not sure how to read the settings at the top other than the Opacity and Flow amounts.
