UPDATE // sketchbook tour progress

My first sketchbook tour is almost done! It's rendering as I'm typing this. It’s been quite a challenge creating this video because it’s a steep learning curve for me. In the last few days I learned a lot about:

I’m happy to say that I’ve truly gotten into the swing of making these, and it's so much more fun than I thought it would be. Expect the video to be posted soon ~ thanks so much for your patience everyone!! <3

I did! I use my iphone 11 pro to film. the solution was a different shutter speed! that totally got rid of the flickering effect.

Loish

Did you figure out how to stop the flickering? What camera do you use? (Can we help? Haha)

O__O Makes sense! I'm an AE guy myself but I see a lot of people edit in Premiere.

Jeremy C. Joseph

definitely! i want to spend a lot more time sketching on paper.

Loish

i learned mainly by doing sketches and studies from reference! what helps me is to take a 'chunky' approach to constructing them, and doing finer details later. it helps give a sense of weight and mass!

Loish

tbh, 4K is overkill right now. But since the option is there, I want to film in 4k and be able to render it out in that quality at a later point. I found out that I can use a low-res proxy file to edit in premiere, which made this possible!

Loish

Very exciting! It sounds like one of those processes that you can't anticipate all of the hiccups that are going to arise until you do it. Looks like you're nailing it though!

Chloe

You're a quick learner! I'd love to hear more of your technical thoughts on this workflow. My biggest problem is not having my lighting blown out when I zoom in close to my work, so frustrating. It will be a while before i start using 4K, since most people's devices can't actually handle it and most social media is consumed on a mobile device.

I'm so excited to see this. Your working so hard on it too. thanks

Divi (Lovewin)

I'm nearly as excited as you are! This sort of video (process from beginning to end) is what I find the best way to learn.

Greg Schultz

That’s awesome! Keep up the hard work, Lois.

Joshua Baker

So excited!

Hey loish! How did you start learning how to draw clothes and hair? I love how they seem like they’re on the person instead of just being there - something I’ve always struggled with - giving both volume :(

SK

Excited to see!! Do you find yourself getting inspired re looking through old sketchbooks?
