Who Can Resist Nakano Nino? [198]

Usually, girls coming to the seaside amusement park didn’t worry much about sunscreen. Between the slides and all sorts of weird tunnels, there were plenty of shaded lounge chairs by the pool. Just like they always say, “Rest when you get tired of playing.”

But for girls who cared about their skin, the sun’s harsh rays were simply unforgivable.

While Yukinoshita Yukino and the others went to change into swimsuits, Shirase came out first wearing only swim trunks. He immediately noticed several girls by the poolside applying sunscreen—some helping friends, others having their boyfriends do it for them.

Maybe because it was the weekend, most people around the pool and slides were young couples, with only a few older visitors here and there.

Shirase, who trained regularly year-round, naturally drew plenty of stares as soon as he stepped out—his toned figure impossible to ignore.

After politely turning down two girls who tried to strike up a conversation, he stopped by the pool to wait for the others.

“The weather’s not as hot as it was a few days ago.”

Nakano Ichika was the first to appear, followed closely by Yotsuba.

The Nakano quintuplets naturally stood out—slim waists, soft thighs, their figures graceful but not overly showy. Their swimsuits weren’t especially revealing, covering most of their pale skin, yet the exposed necklines still gleamed beautifully under the sunlight.

Even Itsuki, who often got teased for having a “little belly,” actually had a surprisingly trim waist—her stomach perfectly flat, not an ounce of excess in sight.

“Guys have it so easy—they just throw on trunks and they’re done… Wait, how did I never notice before that Shirase’s body’s this good?”

Ichika, who’d been focused on the pool equipment, suddenly found her gaze caught by Shirase standing by the water’s edge. Her eyes lit up at once.

Beside her, Yotsuba nodded enthusiastically, eyes wide and sparkling. “Mm-hm, mm-hm, mm-hm!”

Miku glanced at Shirase, her lips moving slightly but no sound coming out.

Behind them, Isshiki Iroha and Itsuki peeked quietly, trying not to get caught.

Just as Ichika openly admired Shirase’s upper body, someone stepped right into her line of sight.

Expressionless, Nino stood in front of them, completely blocking their view. “Shouldn’t you all be going to swim?”

Ichika covered her mouth, laughing softly. “Nino, you’re so stingy. There are plenty of other girls sneaking glances at Shirase, but just because we look, you get all anxious?”

“Which eye of yours saw me anxious?” Nino retorted coldly, trying hard to keep her composure.

Ichika’s grin widened. “Not anxious? Then why’d you come over to block our view? Oh, I get it—you and Shirase have been moving fast, so only you’re allowed to see his body, huh?”

“Nakano Ichika!” Nino instantly broke character, flustered and furious.

“She’s mad, she’s mad~” Ichika sang cheerfully, totally unfazed. “Guess I hit the mark. Let me guess more—did something interesting happen yesterday? Maybe when you went alone to pick up your swimsuit from Shirase’s place?”

Nino’s face went crimson, her pulse spiking.

She’s way too sharp!
Is she just bluffing, or did she actually figure it out?

“Ichika, stop bullying Nino already,” Yotsuba said anxiously, tugging at Ichika’s wrist. “Let’s go play—those crazy slides look super fun!”

“I think so too, but…” Ichika’s tone suddenly soured. “How is Nino this popular? She’s just a tsundere who can’t be honest.”

Nino’s face burned even redder. Knowing she couldn’t win this kind of verbal duel, she puffed her cheeks and huffed, “You guys go play first! I’m done listening to this nonsense—I need a break.”

But instead of heading for the lounge chairs, she marched straight toward Shirase.

“Ichika, that was mean. Why do you always tease Nino?” Yotsuba whispered, thinking Nino was genuinely upset.

Ichika pouted. “Because she’s too popular. Of course people get jealous. Besides, we’re quintuplets—we’re supposed to be equals, right?”

Miku’s eyelids twitched. “If you’re going to talk, just talk. Don’t act cute about it.”

“Exactly. Acting cute doesn’t suit our age—it’s childish,” Yotsuba agreed earnestly.

Ichika chuckled, then noticed out of the corner of her eye that Itsuki was still quietly watching Shirase. What a silly girl, she thought—only to realize Isshiki Iroha was doing the exact same thing.

No way.
A bonus rival?

Ichika froze for a second, then quickly smoothed her expression before anyone noticed.

Still, after thinking it over, it didn’t seem strange.

Isshiki-san was the soccer club’s manager—she saw Shirase every day. With both him and Hayama Hayato being top heartthrobs, it wasn’t surprising if she’d fallen for one of them.

Ichika couldn’t help recalling Shirase’s words: “At our age, liking someone’s totally normal—we’re right at the age where love blossoms.”

Her gaze drifted to where Shirase and Nino stood together, and she smiled mischievously to herself.

Shirase, brace yourself. I might not bother you—but Isshiki-san’s got a clever streak.

Just then, Yukinoshita Yukino finally stepped out of the changing room.

Her swimsuit was a pale, watery blue, a towel draped loosely around her slender waist. Her fair, flawless skin gleamed; long, delicate legs touched the floor with quiet grace, her round pink-tipped toes neat as porcelain.

Since she was the last to appear, everyone naturally turned to look.

Ichika’s eyes immediately traced her figure. That waist… wow. Those legs… and those—

Small and cute, she thought, lips twitching.

Compared to the Nakanos’ curvier figures, Yukino did seem petite—almost fragile.

Isshiki Iroha, peeking from the back, blinked in shock. She’d known Yukino was small-chested even in uniform—but seeing it up close, she realized she’d still overestimated her.

She’s really flat…

Yukinoshita Yukino, however, looked perfectly unfazed. She’d already anticipated as much when Shirase invited her here.

Everyone else quickly looked away or busied themselves with swim rings—except Ichika, who kept staring straight at her.

And not subtly, either—her gaze was locked squarely on Yukino’s chest, a faint smirk playing on her lips.

“Nakano Ichika-san,” Yukino said coolly, brows drawing together. “What exactly do you mean by that look?”

“Eh? Nothing, nothing. I just thought you look really beautiful in a swimsuit,” Ichika replied with a bright, innocent smile, waving both hands.

“You’re lying.”

“Am I? I really mean it. I thought my figure was decent, but your waist and hips are amazing—and your legs too.”

“No matter how much you flatter me, you can’t hide what you were actually thinking,” Yukino said evenly, picking up a plain orange swim ring and fixing Ichika with a sharp look.

“If you say so, I can’t argue,” Ichika said breezily, then added, “But honestly, Yukinoshita-san, you’re way too thin.”

Yukino smiled faintly. “Are you suggesting a woman’s worth is decided by her chest size?”

Before Ichika could reply, Yukino continued, voice calm but cutting, “If that were true, then why am I ranked second in the school, while you and your sisters have to rely on Mr. Monkey’s tutoring just to scrape by?”

Ichika froze, eyes narrowing. “Wait—how do you even know about that?”

Yukino lowered her gaze to the swim ring, speaking as if to herself. “From the day you first came to the Service Club to provoke me, I did some research. That’s how I learned your grades were abysmal. As for Mr. Monkey tutoring all five of you…”

A dazzling smile bloomed across her pretty face. “Your grades have improved lately—all five of you. Even Hiratsuka-sensei mentioned it. I know you couldn’t have done that alone. Going from hopeless to top-tier takes at least a semester or two.”

Nakano Ichika felt a twinge of embarrassment at being seen through so completely. Being laid bare like that was… uncomfortable.

After checking that her swim ring was fine, Yukinoshita Yukino slipped it around her slim waist and started toward the pool. “Please stop staring at a girl’s chest. It’s extremely rude—even if you’re a girl.”

“Fine, fine.” Ichika replied breezily, grabbing her own ring and trailing after her.

She might have sounded gracious in defeat, but Nakano Ichika was never the type to back down so easily.

She’d barely taken a few steps before glancing over, smiling suggestively. “Shirase and the others are over there. Aren’t you going to join them?”

Yukinoshita gave her a puzzled look. “Why would I?”

Ichika’s smile stayed innocent. “From what I’ve seen, you and Shirase have pretty good chemistry.”

“Me and Mr. Monkey?” Yukino sighed, half amused. “I don’t know whether to praise your ‘keen eye’ or your imagination.” She flicked a look at Shirase and Nino. “Almost every interaction between us is unpleasant. How did you get ‘good relationship’ from that?”

“My intuition never lies.”

“Intuition can be right,” Yukino said evenly, “but most of the time it’s just self-suggestion.”

“In other words,” Ichika tilted her head, “you don’t like Shirase?”

“I neither like nor dislike him. That’s my stance right now.”

With that, Yukinoshita dipped one snow-white foot into the cool water. Finding it agreeable, she slowly bent down and added calmly, “Of course, if he pursued me, I might consider giving him a chance. Just one.”

Ichika clicked her tongue quietly—what a bold, straightforward line.

She felt a little deflated. She’d waited with her sisters for Yukino to show up, and with their curves they’d managed to leave a small impression at first.

But Yukino had seized control of the conversation and set the pace in an instant.

Even when Ichika deliberately asked, “Does Yukinoshita-san dislike Shirase?” Yukino answered frankly, without a hint of hesitation.

As for herself, Ichika would never dare say something as gutsy as “I’d give him a chance if he pursued me.”

Ichika rubbed her face, annoyed, and shot a bitter glance toward Yotsuba, who was already laughing her head off on the slide.

I’ve only got one move left—Yotsuba, don’t let me down.

...

“They look like they’re having fun. Why aren’t you joining?” Shirase sat beside Nakano Nino, admiring her smooth, delicate skin as he asked casually.

“I was going to, but Ichika’s so annoying. All she does is tease me.” Nino still hadn’t cooled off.

Shirase chuckled. “Let me guess—about us?”

Nino’s cheeks pinked as she wordlessly admitted it.

Shirase reached for the sunscreen. “Next time, just say it up front: ‘Yeah, I like Shirase. Got a problem?’ That shuts people up fast.”

Nino stared at him, amused. “Not everyone has a face as thick as yours.”
How could I say something that embarrassing in front of everyone?

“If you don’t speak up, Ichika will keep picking at you until your defenses crumble—and then she’ll stroll off cackling,” Shirase said, painting the picture all too clearly.

Nino froze.

Imagining Ichika laughing triumphantly as she kept poking at her made Nino shiver.

“Given her personality, she really might…” She suddenly noticed the bottle in his hand. “Wait—why are you holding sunscreen?”

“Obviously to help you put it on. Don’t tell me you’re backing out now,” Shirase said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

“I didn’t even ask you to.”

“That’s because I’m considerate.”

It’s like how immature boys, when they see a beautiful, well-off, mature woman, can only curry favor by calling her “pretty auntie.”

Meanwhile, the mature boys already have the aunties calling them.

In the end, Nino obediently stretched out on the lounge chair and let Shirase apply the sunscreen.

In a public place like this, he kept himself in check. Instead, it was the thin-skinned girl who quietly grabbed his jacket to cover her straight, slender, beautiful legs.

“All done. Your turn to help me,” Shirase said, lifting his hands.

“Huh?” Nino blinked at him. “You’re a boy—why would you need me to put it on you?”

“You think I didn’t notice you sneaking looks at me earlier?”

“Who would bother sneaking looks at you?!” Nino shot back on instinct.

But as Shirase stretched out beside her, comfort written all over him, Nino’s impulses overran her reason. Cheeks burning, she reached out, fingers gliding over the firm line of his waist.

Well… he touched me first. What’s wrong with touching him back a little?

The girl thought shyly—and indulged herself.
