Detective Conan: Becoming a Tycoon in Tokyo! [4]
Added 2025-10-30 13:17:09 +0000 UTCShōichi didn’t stay long at the research facility.
He couldn’t stand the lingering smell of food on Gin.
Even though Gin had already changed clothes, it was as if the stench had soaked into his very skin.
Shōichi’s open disgust made Gin’s expression darken.
Damn rich kid.
After promising to “help find” Gin’s car, Shōichi promptly took his leave.
Later, after grabbing dinner at a restaurant, he pulled out his phone and made a call.
“My car was impounded at the police station. Get it out for me and drive it to…” He glanced at a nearby sign. “The entrance of Mitsui convenience store.”
Soon, the skies opened up, and rain came down in sheets.
Fortunately, his subordinate was efficient, quickly delivering the distinctive black Porsche.
Shōichi ran a hand across its glossy surface. As expected of Gin’s “wife”—quite the beauty.
Sliding into Gin’s beloved Porsche, Shōichi started the engine and headed home.
He had promised to help find the car, but he hadn’t said when he’d return it.
...
On the way, his headlights caught a small white figure stumbling along the roadside.
Soaked through and dragging an oversized lab coat behind her, Miyano Shiho trudged forward one unsteady step at a time.
The sudden glare of headlights made her squint.
Thankfully, the car’s beams dipped, letting her open her eyes again—only to see a black Porsche 356A stop beside her.
A man in a black trench coat stepped out, umbrella in hand, and walked toward her.
“Rainy days really suit little girls,” he said lightly.
Miyano Shiho froze where she stood.
She recognized him—she’d seen him earlier that day at the research facility.
Cointreau. A codename on par with Gin’s.
Shōichi studied her for a moment, then smiled. “That coat looks familiar. I feel like I’ve seen it somewhere before.”
Her heart skipped a beat.
“A white lab coat? Hospital—or maybe a lab?”
So she really had been caught by the Organization.
Shiho gritted her teeth, steeling herself. Summoning the last of her strength, she pulled a fruit knife from her pocket and lunged at him.
But to Shōichi, it looked more like a drenched little girl tripping straight into his arms.
He gently patted her soaked brown hair and smiled. “Kids these days sure are affectionate—throwing themselves at strangers.”
Shiho’s humiliation burned. She tightened her grip, preparing to strike again.
“Hmm? A ceramic fruit knife? Is this a gift for me?” Shōichi took the blade from her hand with mild amusement. “This kind isn’t very sharp—good for cutting fruit, maybe baby food. But for a little kid like you, still too dangerous.”
Another insult.
Did he just mock her knife? Calling it fit only for cutting baby food?
But her body burned like fire, strength draining away. The fever overwhelmed her, and she could barely move, collapsing weakly against him like a small, trembling kitten.
Shōichi touched her forehead—it was scorching.
He bent down and picked something up from the wet ground: a business card. Shiho’s pulse spiked.
“How come you have my card?” he asked, looking down at her.
Shiho pressed her lips together, silent.
That card—his card—was now the damning clue. The same one he’d slipped into her pocket earlier that day.
A casual gesture, and it had sealed her fate.
Fate had never been kind to her.
It was over. She could already picture her end.
And yet, strangely, she smiled.
Maybe dying like this isn’t so bad. At least I’ll be with my sister again.
“Ah! I get it!” Shōichi suddenly exclaimed, eyes lighting up.
Shiho went limp in resignation.
You only figured it out now? Well, fair enough. Turning into a child overnight is a bit much.
“You must want to come home with me, right?”
“...Huh!?”
Without waiting for a reply, Shōichi scooped her up and carried her toward the car.
“You ran straight into my arms, gave me a fruit knife as a present, and even had my business card in your pocket. You clearly have nowhere else to go and came looking for me, didn’t you?”
“Even at your age, you can already recognize a righteous hero like me—a blessing like rain in a drought!”
He gently set her in the back seat, not caring that her soaked clothes drenched the upholstery.
Taking a towel from a convenience store bag, he began drying her hair, his tone soft. “Since you’re so proactive, you can come home with me.”
“I…”
“Be good. We’ll be home soon.” He lightly pinched her cheek.
Miyano Shiho: Huh???
The car cruised through the rain. Shiho struggled upright just enough to see black-clad figures searching the streets.
But the Porsche drove straight past them, unnoticed.
Exhaustion and fever swallowed her whole. She glanced once at Shōichi before drifting into unconsciousness.
Whatever happens, happens. At worst… I’ll see my sister again.
That was her final thought before blacking out.
The car stopped before a villa.
Carrying the little girl, Shōichi stepped out into the rain. He couldn’t hold an umbrella, so he got soaked again.
“Shōichi-sama, welcome back,” the maid greeted as she opened the door.
“Yeah. Get me some dry clothes,” Shōichi said. Then paused. “No—call a doctor first. And get this kid a bath. She’s soaked through.”
“Yes, sir.”
The maid followed orders without question.
Shōichi set the little girl on the sofa and peeled off his wet trench coat.
Hmm. That coat cost a million yen. Since it’s ruined from carrying her, she’ll have to pay me back when she can.
How much exactly? He couldn’t quite recall. Let’s call it 700,000 yen.
And the sofa, the floor, the Porsche—they were all soaked too. Cleaning and repairs, plus the doctor, medicine, and the maid’s time... Let’s round it to about 800,000.
Total bill: 1.5 million yen. Hopefully the little loli won’t try to skip out on her debts.
Sleeping soundly on the sofa, cheeks flushed from fever, Miyano Shiho had no idea she’d just gone deep into debt.
