Namikaze Minato Wants to Leave Work on Time [6]

From the Senju compound came a steady rhythm of loud smacks, mixed with a girl’s furious voice.
“Come loose already!”
“Dammit, why won’t this stupid thing loosen?!”
Kushina had slapped her belly bright red, but the new seal refused to budge.
In the field of fūinjutsu, Kushina—with her Uzumaki lineage—stood unmatched in the shinobi world.
And yet, faced with the seal on her own body, she was completely powerless.
“Am I really going to have to face Minato like this?”
Kushina stared at her reflection in the mirror. Her normally pale belly was flushed crimson, the seal still pristine and unmoving.
Normally, she’d loosen it on purpose as an excuse to visit Minato for reinforcement.
But this time, she didn’t even have that pretext.
After some thought, she made her decision.
I don't need dignity anymore!
Not long after the sounds in the Senju compound faded, a flash of red darted through the night—Kushina, trailed by several shadowy figures.
Before long, the red-haired girl arrived at the village’s civilian district.
Who would’ve guessed the youngest Hokage in Konoha’s history lived in such a modest place?
Kushina pounded on the door, shouting her usual line: “Minato! My belly’s acting up again—open the door, quick!”
As always, Minato opened the door with a dark expression and quickly pulled her inside.
“Can’t you phrase that differently next time?” he asked with a weary sigh.
Hands on her hips, Kushina grinned proudly. “If I didn’t say it like that, would the great Fourth Hokage even help me?”
“Let’s just get this over with,” Minato said flatly.
As she slowly lifted her shirt, Kushina sneaked glances at him from under her lashes.
But before she could bare her stomach completely, Minato’s dissatisfied voice cut in. “Your seal is perfectly stable. No reinforcement needed. Kakashi, see our guest out.”
“Wait, wait!” Kushina quickly waved, blocking Kakashi as he appeared at her side. “I think reinforcement is still necessary!”
“You clearly have no problem,” Minato said, hand on his hip, sighing again.
“Minato, I know you’re annoyed, but listen.” Kushina’s tone turned serious. “You’re Hokage now—you can’t just do things on a whim. You have to consider the village. Reinforcing my seal takes only a little of your off-hours time, but it ensures the peace and safety of everyone in Konoha. Isn’t that worth it?”
Minato: “…”
After a long pause, he sighed. “Fine. I’ll reinforce it one more time.”
“[Fūinjutsu: Ultra-Spiral Crimson Flash Dance Roar Ninth Style]!”
Warm chakra seeped into her belly, and Kushina, deeply content, pulled her shirt back down.
“As expected of Minato—your touch feels just as good as ever,” she said, smiling as she rubbed her stomach.
“If that’s all, head home. I still have work to do.”
He turned to his desk, picked up a pen, and began writing.
Curious, Kushina leaned over to peek—and saw him drafting the Ultra-Spiral Crimson Flash Dance Roar Ninth Style scroll.
“Minato, this is…” her voice trembled slightly.
“This is the scroll for the Ultra-Spiral Crimson Flash Dance Roar Ninth Style,” Minato said, pausing to glance up with a gentle smile. “You’re already a mature Jinchūriki. It’s time you learned to handle the Tailed Beast’s seal yourself. Once I finish this scroll, I’ll give it to you so you can reinforce it on your own.”
“But I can’t even understand—” Kushina began, then froze mid-sentence.
“What’s wrong?” Minato turned toward her.
“N-nothing!” she said quickly, shaking her head.
As he returned to writing, Kushina patted her chest in relief.
That was close.
She’d almost ruined the perfect setup.
If she couldn’t read the scroll, then she’d have a legitimate excuse to visit him later—asking for “guidance” instead of pretending her seal had loosened.
No more fake emergencies or awkward excuses—perfect!
After a while, she fidgeted, disturbing Minato’s writing again. He frowned slightly. “It’s getting late. Go home and rest.”
“But I want to stay a bit longer,” Kushina said, standing stubbornly in place.
“I’m the Hokage,” Minato said coolly. “And I have to take responsibility for your sleep schedule.”
He glanced toward the shadows. “Kakashi, see her out.”
Just like before, the young, white-haired Anbu slung her over his shoulder.
As they passed the Hokage Building, both noticed the lights still burning inside.
“Hey, kid,” Kushina asked from his shoulder, “didn’t Minato already leave work? Why are the lights still on?”
Kakashi thought for a moment, recalling earlier events. “That should be Orochimaru-sama. He offered to help with paperwork tonight.”
Hearing that, Kushina sighed softly. “It’s nice having such a capable assistant. No wonder Minato can relax at home.”
...
Inside the Hokage’s office.
Orochimaru sat at the desk, methodically pulling files from the towering pile, examining each one before stamping it.
To appease the Fourth Hokage’s temper, he’d been forced to stay behind and work overtime.
As he read, he sensed a chakra signature approach—then came a knock at the door.
“Come in,” he rasped.
The door opened to reveal Uchiha Fugaku.
Fugaku glanced around before turning to Orochimaru. “Is Hokage-sama not here?”
“He’s already off work,” Orochimaru replied with a strained smile. “If you have business, you can speak to me instead.”
Fugaku shook his head. “Actually, that’s perfect—I came looking for you, Orochimaru-sama.”
“…Looking for me?”
Not the Fourth Hokage—but him?
Orochimaru blinked, surprised. He couldn’t imagine what business the Uchiha clan head had with him.
Fugaku continued, “Earlier today, Hokage-sama and I discussed how to deal with Danzō. Hokage-sama said you’d be picking him up tonight. But after waiting so long without seeing you, I thought perhaps something had delayed you. So I came to check at the Hokage Building—and here you are.”
Go to the Uchiha compound… to pick up Danzō?
Danzō is at the Uchiha compound?!
Minato-kun hadn’t mentioned that to him at all.
Orochimaru sat frozen, utterly stunned.
