Pokémon: My Titles Know No Limits! [611]

As Gardevoir took Eevee's place on the battlefield, Wallace admitted that initially, he’d felt his confidence waver a bit.

But he quickly adjusted his mentality. After all, losing to August wasn’t anything shameful.

Rather than hesitating and fretting over gains and losses, why not fight with everything he had? Who knew—he might even win.

Thinking this, Wallace straightened up, a spark igniting in his eyes.

“Milotic!” Wallace called out. “Dance your most beautiful dance!”

As his voice fell, the Dynamax Band on Wallace’s wrist shone brightly. A gigantic Poké Ball appeared in his hand; an enormous sphere that an ordinary trainer would have needed both hands to hold was effortlessly balanced in Wallace’s palm as he tossed it forward.

Milotic’s body expanded dramatically, instantly occupying half the battlefield.

Dynamax Milotic!

If ordinary Milotic exuded elegance, then Dynamax Milotic added a touch of oppressive majesty on top of that.

Rainbow scales shimmered brilliantly beneath the rainfall, emitting iridescent colors.

“Wooo—!”

Milotic gracefully lifted its slender neck, letting out a melodic cry that resonated across the arena.

“Do you want to Dynamax?” August glanced toward Gardevoir.

Gardevoir observed the giant Milotic for a moment before shaking her head, rejecting August’s suggestion. Her body floated upwards, buoyed by Psychic power.

Seeing that Gardevoir had her own plan, August was happy to relax.

He trusted Gardevoir, just as she trusted him.

Psychic energy surged intensely, causing Gardevoir’s eyes to glow a piercing blue.

[Psychic]!

A devastating mental force powerful enough to distort reality instantly slammed into Milotic.

For that split second, even the high Special Defense of Milotic wasn’t enough to stop an expression of pain from crossing its face.

[Max Geyser]!”

A massive orb of water coalesced in front of Milotic, transforming swiftly into a surging torrent aimed directly at Gardevoir.

Facing the incoming deluge, Gardevoir simply raised an arm, her eyes flashing blue.

Boom!

The Max Geyser hurtling toward her inexplicably twisted mid-air, forcibly redirected by Gardevoir’s incomprehensible power, sailing harmlessly past her and smashing into the arena’s protective barrier behind.

The shield rippled violently, sending terrified murmurs through spectators closest to the barrier, who momentarily feared it might collapse beneath the immense force.

Thankfully, Hammerlocke Stadium's defenses were constructed without shortcuts—the energy barrier managed to withstand Milotic’s full-force Max Geyser.

August, who’d nearly sent Mew forward to protect the audience, relaxed slightly, pulling back.

But compared to the alarm among some spectators, the rest of the crowd—and Ball Guy, who was commentating—were far more focused on the unbelievable technique Gardevoir had just used to "evade" Milotic’s attack.

“The a-attack was diverted!” Ball Guy shouted in astonishment.

Redirecting the trajectory of Max Geyser outright was even more shocking than blocking it directly head-on.

“Looks like Wallace has no chance now,” Gary Oak said calmly.

Surprisingly, many people nodded in agreement at Gary’s words. Against a Gardevoir like this, what did Wallace even have left to fight with?

Over in Iono’s livestream chat, the viewers were already cracking champagne for August.

—[Iono’s Pokémon Technique Fan: Milotic: WHAT?! You’re telling me to fight GARDEVOIR?]

—[Gardevoir Protection Squad Member: GARDEVOIR SUPREMACY!!!]

Amidst the scrolling flood of “GARDEVOIR SUPREMACY,” Gardevoir moved again.

Even the pouring rain couldn’t faze her. Gardevoir raised a hand slightly, causing the nearby Mind Plate to vibrate softly.

An enormous quantity of psychic power surged into the Mind Plate, rapidly amplified as it passed through.

With Gardevoir’s gentle wave of her hand—

In the next instant… the air behind her rippled in countless circles.

Invisible psychic energy condensed into countless spheres of dazzling, otherworldly brilliance.

“What…is that?” Gary asked, wide-eyed.

“This move…” Sabrina murmured quietly from the sidelines, a strange gleam flashing through her eyes.

When had Gardevoir learned this?

She had no idea Gardevoir had taken inspiration from Arceus’s Judgment. August, however, had his guesses.

At that exact moment, Gardevoir finally unleashed her attack.

[Psybeam]!

Behind Gardevoir, dozens of psychic spheres coalesced, all locking onto the single target—Milotic—and fired simultaneously.

The sky erupted into a kaleidoscope of colors, painted surreal by the dazzling brilliance of Psybeam, transporting everyone present into a dreamlike space.

A sight so stunning that every spectator stood frozen in astonishment.

It wasn’t as if they’d never seen a Psybeam before, but a sight like this… would stun them for the rest of their lives!

Not only the audience—even Wallace and Milotic had never witnessed something so mesmerizing.

"Such beauty..." Wallace murmured, eyes captivated by the spectacle unfolding above.

Fortunately, at this critical moment, his combat instincts as Hoenn’s champion jolted him awake.

“Milotic, [Max Guard]!

Snapping back to reality, Milotic flicked her tail, erecting a reassuringly sturdy protective barrier between herself and Gardevoir.

No sooner had Max Guard appeared than Psybeam collided fiercely against it.

Like torrential rain, countless Psybeams hammered onto the Max Guard. With each impact, the psychic ‘raindrops’ burst into vivid, prismatic halos of dazzling light.

The explosions numbered in the dozens, and the ensuing psychic storm warped the very fabric of space around it.

Witnessing this spectacle, Wallace couldn’t suppress a chill running down his spine.

Had he hesitated even a moment, had he failed to use Max Guard, or if Milotic had simply used a normal Protect instead of Dynamaxing, the battle would’ve ended right there.

And now... though things weren’t much better than losing outright, at least Milotic was still standing.

After withstanding Gardevoir’s full barrage head-on, surely no one will dare call me weak now...

Looking at Milotic barely clinging on after enduring Gardevoir’s assault, and Gardevoir calmly hovering overhead, Wallace couldn’t help thinking this.

If anyone still called him weak, they could come face-to-face with August’s terrifying move themselves!

A thousand thoughts raced through Wallace’s mind, but it didn't interfere with his commands: “Milotic…[Max Geyser]!”

Watching Milotic launch another Max Geyser, Wallace himself had to admit—without anyone else pointing it out—Milotic’s attack looked rather humorous in this moment, despite her perfect control and elegant execution compared to the usual Dynamax Pokémon he’d seen on TV.

Under his refined artistry, Max Geyser was magnificent, both visually and in power.

But compared to Gardevoir’s breathtaking performance just moments ago, it completely paled in comparison.

The earlier image still vivid in his mind, Wallace suddenly felt the match had lost its appeal.

Gardevoir had already demonstrated absolute dominance.

Finally, Gardevoir concluded the battle decisively with a single, powerful Psychic.

Floating gracefully down from the sky, Gardevoir returned to August’s side—completely dry from head to toe, untouched by even a single raindrop throughout the entire match.

The referee glanced at Milotic collapsed on the ground, announcing the result:

“Milotic is unable to battle. Gardevoir wins!”

“Wallace has no remaining Pokémon. The victor is…August!”

In the first round of the Masters Eight tournament, August answered all doubts with a clean 3:0 victory.

Had he grown weaker because he couldn’t use legendary Pokémon? Certainly, yes!

But August was still August.

Watching August swarmed by reporters for an interview, Gary Oak muttered sourly, “Dammit, he’s acting cool again!”

Though he grumbled aloud, even Gary privately admitted August deserved the attention.

If it had been Gary himself pulling off such an unbelievable stunt, he would’ve recorded it, strapped the tablet to his chest, and replayed it 24/7 everywhere he went.

Meanwhile, Iono’s livestream had long since exploded in excitement.

The audience relentlessly urged Iono to conduct an exclusive interview with August, eager to hear the story behind Gardevoir’s dazzling new move. And if August refused, viewers shamelessly insisted that Iono kneeling to beg wasn’t entirely out of the question.

Reading these outrageous comments, Iono felt faint.

How could she have such ridiculous viewers!?

Responding to Iono’s despairing complaints, the barrage shamelessly fired back:

—[Streamer like audience! We’re corrupted by you, host!]

Iono fainted.jpg

When August finished his interviews and returned to the stands, he found Iono looking utterly lifeless.

“Iono, what happened to you?” August asked, puzzled.

“Nothing much...” Iono replied weakly. “August, can I have an exclusive interview with you?”

“Of course you can.”

Hearing August’s immediate reply, Iono finally regained some spirit.

August was truly a good person!

If only all her viewers could be as good as August…

While Iono was holding onto such unrealistic expectations, August turned his head to Gary Oak. “While I was battling down there, you talked bad about me, didn’t you...”

Gary’s eyes instantly widened.

Who?! Who leaked the info?!

Gary shot an accusing glance at everyone around him.

“No need to look. It was easy to guess,” August said casually.

If he needed an informant to figure out Gary’s thoughts, he might as well give up being alive altogether.

Gary began doubting his whole existence.

Am I really that predictable?

He turned towards Gold; Gold nodded seriously.

Gary instantly petrified.

Turning away, August swiftly grabbed Mew, who was about to tease Lillie again, and handed Eevee over to Lillie for help drying its fur.

August then shifted his gaze toward the arena.

The battlefield had already been cleaned up by the staff, and the PA announced the arrival of the next competitors.

He glanced to the side at Silver, who hadn't said a word but whose eyes were fixed intently on the battlefield.

“Here comes the big one.”

This match was one of August’s most anticipated battles since the draw results for this year’s World Championship were announced:

Giovanni vs. Leon!

Would former Team Rocket Boss Giovanni claim victory, or would former strongest Champion Leon emerge triumphant?

“Let us welcome our two competitors onto the battlefield!”
