Hello guys!
Small bonus, this is a timeline .gif showing the progress of how I draw backgrounds. :3
1. base background sketch
2: base coloring. No line art is used for background elements (to give depth)
3: Volumes are added to background elements
4: contact shadows are added
5: textures are added
6: water gradient (matching the ambient light we have in mind.)
7: transparency and shadow mapping of water. (reduce opacity and add a darker layer, then desaturate at leisure.)finally add ripples, water shaders and glows. (brushes and faded with blur.)
8. ambient shadow map is drawn. Hue of edges is modified to match planned ambient light.
9: shadow map depth is added (alpha effect, additional layers with less saturation at leisure, then "multiply" a final layer on top.)
10. Light source and flares are drawn. use solid brush with ambient light color (white, yellow, orange, blue depending on time of day and light saturation. Then simulate glow with added layer in white then blend with "shine" effect. Finally blur at leisure.
Monthly report coming up shortly~
