Something fun I saw this when it came out in theaters/cinema and I saw it in imax and the burj khalifa scene when they pan out as he's stepping out was a surreal experience!

The series finds a permanent director for the next 4 films so the tone and style will settle in (and the stunts generally get more and more insane, with Tom doing as much practically as he could). As for your questions, yes Tom did some stunts outside/on the Burj … there’s even a picture easily found online of him sitting on top of the building. 😃 And living in Arizona now, I can tell you that in a sandstorm, you are advised to pull over with your lights on to wait for it to pass. 🙂
