2022-09-14 05:33:58 +0000 UTC6) THE ONE RING - I briefly thought to outline its many effects, but changed my mind & I'll go straight to the point (for once); this is (in my opinion) the whole mechanics of evil (either in Tolkien's works, or otherwise) - the greatest trick of evil is similar (yet NOT the same) to that quote about the devil; not only does evil convince you that it does not exist, BUT it actually convinces you about the effects of all your decisions ... While this is NOT in the books (at least not 'per se'), still, imagine yourself standing in the heart of Mount Doom, where you need to destroy the ring ... However, the ring tells you that you should rather put it on and use it, or you may risk losing everything and everyone you love. Using this ring is the only option to save them, perhaps even saving them (I'll partially quote the Withcking from the books, and what he says to Eowyn) from going to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darkness, where [thy] flesh shall be devoured, and [thy] shrivelled mind be left naked to the Lidless Eye. So, you have a choice to save your loved ones from suffering beyond words by simply putting on the ring, OR you can destroy the only thing which can help those you love ... Bottom line is that the ring itself will play any 'mind tricks' on its bearer it needs to in order to survive (and ring's effects are greater when it senses it may be in danger).
