I was suprised that people were interpreting the hellmouth reference as religious guilt since I tried to keep faith out of the story. BUT I know where it comes from - I grew up Christian, so it's my own thoughts going towards Christian guilt, and they spilled over to Piet. Talk about self therapy through comics, hah.

Hmmm that shot of Piet’s high tops… either Thea didn’t see them, or she didn’t want a picture with him?
Anyway. I’m so ready for Piet’s guilt arc, he’s got some of the most growing to do and it will be really satisfying to see.
I can relate on the gay-and-religious sentiment, but is that really where Piet’s mind is? I can’t recall the Tannenbergers ever being shown as particularly religious or observant. Maybe his guilt is more for cheating than for kissing a boy?
Then again, he’s clearly had lots of internalized homophobia over the story. Several other characters too. Maybe it IS religious. Or cultural?
I dunno, just thinking out loud! Life’s been life-ing and I’m catching up on a ton of updates, it’s a nice treat. Ty!
*Edit: got their last name wrong, realized after the most recent update😝

That sounds very much like religious trauma/Catholic guilt!
