I have an idea where Piet gets called into the room to discuss this switch after his breakup with Thea and the falling out of all that. After everything he’s experienced, he’d hear about Tim wanting a new mentor and decide to give in. He’d insist that Tim get a new mentor but that he get cut out of the program and just get an F. Matze would try to calm him down and he’d shove stuff off Matze’s desk and say he’s not going to leave without being told he failed. Matze says he could fail the year for this and Piet says he should be expelled. He starts crying as he describes his responsibilities and says he can’t stand having to be responsible for another students well-being on top of all that. Matze decides to make the mentor project optional saying that he could do something else instead. Then Piet leaves. Tim tries to talk to him after that, but Piet stops him and says he never wants to talk to Tim again and there’s nothing to talk about.
