Now that hits so close to home. Maybe I'm projecting too much, but I guess doing/being what everyone else expects you to be/do doesn’t leave you with much of a personality. You dedicate yourself to fulfilling everyone’s expectations and never really take the time to wonder what you actually want or like. You never create a persona, because you just follow people's orders and that is what you are.

I have an idea for a story where Piet tries to be himself to Tim in hopes of making progress towards Tim not hating him and it comes off as even less genuine and Tim calls him out on that and he switches gears and that makes Tim even more aware of what he’s doing, and he admits he was trying to be himself and seem more approachable, saying it in his usual tone for talking to Tim, and Tim makes a snide remark about seeing him back to his original fake persona. Then Piet gets angry and just says lil random shit like “the bacon clock strikes 13 in three beers” and Tim says that’s also performative, he’s accomplished nothing, then he blurts out that Tim looks just like his first kiss and now boyfriend, and that’s why he stared at him in his sleep that one time. Now Tim is uncomfortable, and asks why he’d say that if it just made him less likable. Then Piet says it wasn’t, he just wanted to do something fully genuine. Tim gets mad and says Piets fake self is better, and Piet says Tim’s being a hypocrite because he would never act fake just to make someone else feel better. Then Tim just says not to, and Piet says he can’t just say private secrets all the time and even then that wasn’t his truest self because he wouldn’t have said it if he wasn’t trying to do something real, like it wasn’t something that came naturally to him. He asks Tim how he just knows who he is and what he actually wants to be doing, and Tim can’t really answer, he just sort of doesn’t perform. Piet says the only time he knows he’s not performing is when he’s being an asshole, and he doesn’t want to do that. Tim decides he should start by letting them not become friends, and not trying to fix things. Then Piet decides to give up, and thanks him. Tim was only semi-serious about what he said because he didn’t think Piet would listen, so he’s surprised by Piet listening and thanking him.

Piet doesn't know what his genuine self looks like either, I guess ... we'll have to wait and see!

Nooooo! It's only gonna get harder the longer you put it off Piet!!

now, that is frustrating o.o

So I'm somewhat curious about Piet's perfect performance. What would Piet's most genuine self look like and what would him dropping the performance entail? Would Tim notice if Piet did that?

The Urge

Come on Piet, you can 🥹 also dang, this is getting quite emotional 😭
