[Anton] New story? ???

It somehow felt incomplete to leave those pictures out on Patreon. I was hyped about this new thing and posted all of them on Twitter earlier.

I reaaaally wanted new characters because I was tired of thinking about the same characters over and over again. As always, I don't know if they'll stay. New characters often get lost on the way because they can't keep me interested enough. Making new characters is hard - they are like plastic figures and you first have to animate them until they start to move on their own.

So ... feel free to discuss! (?) XD

It revolves around Anton and the friends of his older brother Oskar. A bit like "cutE" with Julian and his older friends.

I wrote a small 2 page opening scene with Anton (in German). Should I post it for the $5 patrons? Tell me if you'd like to read it.

Ah yes, we almost always go for the eyes first when looking at a character. They aren't called "Spiegel der Seele" for a reason since they let you connect with a person the most. In Germany, it's popular to give the kids in children's books dot eyes. I tried to do that too when working on my portfolio but it creeped me out to no end! I like it in other peoples art sometimes, but when I'm just putting a dot for an eye, I can't help but see a soulless dark circle staring into the void ... |D; The splotchy style helps me to get a better grasp of a silhouette/gesture and directly using color is really fun! Maybe the lineart-style and flat style can be combined some more in the future. I like both. Anton is too big for a short story, I'm afraid. For a short story I noticed that the script has to be even shorter then I think. Like, 2-4 pages of script is enough to fill 10-20 pages. Haha, don't get me wrong - I like drawing girls sometimes because they're fun and cute or cool and fresh but I know beforehand that I can't make characters out of them so I rarely give them attention. Poor girls.

Ok, cool! =) These covers were just the inital ideas I had in mind for the main theme. We'll see what Anton will develop to!

Yes please! (even if I do have to copy+paste it into Google Translate haha) I love the cover, it tells you so much about his character and looks really striking.

I was a bit apprehensive towards this "splotchy" style when you first started posting sketches in it, but I couldn't quite put a finger on what exacly my problem was. They seemed a bit stiff and not quite human? I now realise it was the eyes. With just a tiny bit of white in the eyes the entire character immediately pops into life, and I start seeing them more as people, rather than drawings of people. The whole concept looks neat, now that I've warmed up to the style. Especially that first cover picture is one that would make me stop and pick it up if it were a book in a bookstore. I'd love to see the opening and get a taste of the actual story. Could this be a possible contender for the short story? Also, I can't help but laugh at the stick figure girls next to the beautifully rendered boys. Priorities, priorities...
