Hello guys, loved your reaction, as always !
Would you please consider watching the movie Casino ? It was directed by Martin Scorsese as well and includes Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro! It is more intense than Goodfellas though, I think you'll really like it, maybe put it in a poll or something ^^
Anyway, love you guys!

Totally agree. I think what makes Goodfellas a better movie for me is that it feels more relatable because of the time frame. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. Henry Hill was a real was a real person that was in current news circulation for me so this movie is so much more ral to me.
Hannah, PLEASEEEEEEEEEE consider watching The Sopranos on your channel. Talk about feeling so torn between loving and hating characters. To me, The Sopranos is the best series of all time. The world building and investment made into the character development of that show is genius.

I know everyone is screaming for the Godfather...and I get it. But for Hannah....PLEASEEEEE do Casino! Such a freaking awesome gangster movie, but with a POWERFUL female lead. And all the main characters again. Robert Deniro, Joe Pesci, and the GLORIOUS Sharon Stone is impeccable. I think its a gangster movie Hannah would actually really love!

Just watched The Godfather for the first time today and it was a great movie, definitely was slacking but in my honest Opinion, Goodfellas was overall better for me and a more thrilling ride. Both Excellent Though.. need to watch 2 and 3 now

Btw I think 'Casino' is better than 'Goodfellas' simply because the ending chapter in 'Casino' is better and more enjoyable than 'Goodfellas'.

I agree with Ash, I love the movie 'Goodfellas' very much and have watched it more than ten times. However, I always feel like I lose interest in the last half-hour of the movie. I hope you don't misunderstand me. I still love 'Goodfellas' and rate it 9/10, but it's not on the same level as 'The Godfather.' 'The Godfather' ranks second among the best twenty movies I've watched in my life, while 'Scarface' and 'Goodfellas' are not even in the top 20, that's just my opinion.

In reality Tommy Disimone was 6 feet plus tall. He was a psychopath. And he was killed for Billy Baths. Most say it was John Gotti’s crew that killed him. In real life they never found his body. They think his body is buried in a junkyard in Queens NYC or under a building.

A former mobster once said, "The Godfather movie is the way a mobster wants to be viewed as or be remembered by...however, Goodfellas is the harsh reality"
I agree. The majority of mobsters in real life end up killed, in prison or living under the witness protection program...they don't end up with an empire going legit like Michael Corleone.

Jimmy was paranoid but it was not due to the drugs. You guys talk right over super key scenes. They planned and executed the BIGGEST heist ever. After it happened and it was announced on the radio. Jimmy was angry because everyone that was involved was buying flashy things. Samuel L Jackson was shown on a previous scene what you MISSED since you were chatting away.

The story that Tommy's mom tells in that scene was improvised, hence why it seems so natural. By the way, Tommy's mom is played by Martin Scoserse real mother.

This movie doesn't glorify the life and is much more realistic. The Godfather has realism but it's known for glorifying "the life". Good Fellas is an amazing movie that is almost verbatim based on a book that tells a real story. This film is also filled with iconic scenes that if you don't pay attention you will miss.

Great reaction, as usual... but I just have so many things to say lol and I mean it respectfully. I do think you should watch Goofellas again on your own time, like you have with the Godfather. There's so much to more to these characters when you don't have to worry about a good reaction. Also, there's always going to be a legitimate comparison between the 2 movies because of how each movie depicts that life. Goodfellas was a realistic depiction of what that life was (there's errors in the story itself, but that's a different conversation) where Godfather did a lot more to glamourize it. They also were in different time periods so that can also skew the portrayal of them. At the time, the Mafia was actually around for the production and shooting of Godfather and they gave more info and assistance because they knew how the portrayal would be. And no matter the time period, the Mafia will always consistently be formed by terrible people 1920's-00's, ALL of them were murders, thieves, cheats, and overall scumbags that broke the law and made things very dangerous for people. In my opinion, Goodfellas gives you an honest look at the life of these guys in this time period, where the Godfather gives you a dolled up, makeup chair version and that's why I think it's a better movie. And as you said, Ash, just the other way around, the Godfather is an incredible film and regarded as one of the best movies ever made for a reason. It's so easy to get lost in the Godfather 1 and 2 (3 not big on the third) and how it's put together was a game changer. I could go on for way too long on this so I'll see myself out lol. I love your guys reactions to all these different movies and seeing ALL different points of views because I wouldn't say either of you were wrong at any point. It's very cool to see and like the Goodfellas cast, you two have very good chemistry lol. Keep up the great work guys!!!

One of Scorsese’s best for sure. Should have won best picture that year. Everyone was on fire in this. The late Ray Liotta gave one of his best performances, check him out in “Narc”, “No Escape”, “Smokin’ Aces”, “Cop Land”, and “Something Wild”. All great films. Joe Pesci was so unhinged in this film, he won an Oscar for this role. When he and De Niro make a film together it’s bound to be good. I highly recommend “Casino” as a follow up to this, very similar themed, and is a great double feature with Goodfellas. Also check both of them out in “Raging Bull”, and “The Irishman”. Also great movies.

To me, I always felt like, as soon as Tommy got shot in the back of the head like that, it instantly ended the "glorified life" of a mafioso arc of the story. After that, Henry was just a "piece of crap" 1980 coke dealer with all the ugliness and the typical demise.

My favorite movie of all time. Hands down. LOVE The Godfather, but the performances in this one are just a bit more impressive. Probably because the emotional range of the main characters has to follow an arc that, in direct comparison to that of The Godfather, is far more manic at its highest and absolute rock bottom at its lowest. Liotta and Bracco pull it off amazingly well, and the chemistry is undeniable. This is by far Pesci’s best performance. And DeNiro is absolutely DeNiro at his finest.

I’ve heard the relationship between Goodfellas and The Godfather described like this: The Godfather represents how the mafia wants to view itself, it’s a romanticized vision of clandestine circles of men bound by codes of duty and honor and lotalty. Goodfellas represents how the mafia is in real life.

I like to think of Goodfellas as the first movie in a sort of trilogy about the American Mafia in the mid-to-late 20th century. The next two movies are Casino (1995) and The Irishman (2019). All are directed by Martin Scorsese, and all three star Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) can be viewed as a companion piece focusing on cocaine-fueled white collar crime among New York City stockbrokers in the 1980s.
