About the “gladiator” scene. It is black and white, because the filmed those outside scenes with filters that only allowed infra-red light through. This is why some of the black colored clothing (ie. Baron Harkonnen’s robe and the Bene Gesserit’s robes/veils) look white when they’re outside. This was to show what the light looks like on Giedi Prime, the Harkonnen home world, because they have a “black” sun. There’s more info on it in this YT video, including how they used a 3D camera rig to get the clean transition shots from the color (shade) shots to the black sunlight (infra-red) ones. I served in Iraq and was in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, I love the middle eastern culture and almost married the daughter of the minister of Education in Kuwait, I helped her and her mother fix a flat tire for them and we started dating but had to return to the states and I was 18 at the time so we were both too young lol but I had many friends there and in Afghanistan. They should have put you in this movie Ash you would have done it proud.
