The Blues Brothers were a real act on Saturday Night Live (with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi) before the movie even got made. Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi wanted to make Soul/Blues popular again after it got forgotten with Disco and Pop in the late 70s. And they succeeded.
